    2nd hand ute dealers Auckland

    Hi All,

After recommendations for good car dealers in Auckland. Looking to buy a 2021 or newer low km ute prior to landing in NZ. To pick up straight away and head south. Always a bit of a risk but thinking as long as it's a newest low km vechile I should be fine.

Have a 2021 D-max at the moment in oz and same when we were in NZ and happy with it, except for the lane assist bullshit. So something similar or a non hybrid hilux. Might tow a 3te van at some stage, like the utes.

These guys always have few on trademe

I saw this listing you may be interested in: 2021 Isuzu D MAX 3.0TD, 4WD, LS https://www.trademe.co.nz/5567278580

Or recommendations for a vechile inspection mechanic.

    Cheers FBD

I seen a post about that NZmotors and the Utes they are selling. The bull bars they are fitting are Chinese junk that arnt up to code, yet their Utes come freshly WOFd… they arnt passing warrants when people take them in after buying them. Also selling Utes that should be certified for some mods but arnt and still have fresh wofs. Just something I seen online, so take it with a grain of salt but I’d be very wary. I personally wouldn’t buy from them.

thanks Mate, something to check out. Always a bit warry of a heavily modified 4WD, sometimes you are better off buying stock and putting the right mods on, done right.

Ahhh, I see where you have slipped up. You have put 'good' and 'car dealers in Auckland' in the same sentence.

    @dvk-kp is bang on.

I live out South and would not touch any ute sold by a smaller dealer. Its either sketchy in terms of mods (non compliant bull bars, leaking roof platform installs, non certifiable strut spacer lifts etc) or its plastic fantastic with all the stick on bits.

Stick to the big names like Armstrongs, Ebbett, Ford, Toyota dealerships.

Hi tac a1, thanks Mate, I did have a look on TM today and Toyota dealers in Auckland have plenty of SR Hi-luxs, happy to go that route too, Hilux, D-max, Triton all much of the same, I not keen on Rangers or Nissans, that's just my personal perspective, I am surevthey are all ok to, can get a dud in any brand and all brands have there problems.

I'm in South Auckland and in the market for a new ute ATM and have had a walk through a couple of these "Ute Dealers" - as described above a number of them arebright and shiny but the mods on them are non-compliant. Body Lifts, 3" Suspension Lifts, Non-airbag compliant bar work etc and surprising low km's.

    Wouldn't touch them.

Most new vehicle yards are trying to move stock - as new models will be out soon - there is nothing worng with a 2wd SR Hilux for getting around most of NZ hunting areas. A 4x4 is often only needed if you're hitting the SI High country and accessing the braided river systems, then a 2" lifted 4x4 with bigger tyres etc would make the drive more comfortable. If it was me I'd save the difference between the 4xd and 2wd and use it for a couple of helicopter flights for access instead. You'll get there quicker and safer without the risk of damaging your vehicle.

If you get stuck for a lift somewhere to get to accomodation etc if you're travelling with a firearm or need somewhere to store a firearm I'm 15 minutes from the airport and can help out with an airport pick-up. Uber etc get a bit finicky when travelling with a firearm.

    PM me - mike

One reccomendation if I may... avoid a 6 speed gearbox where reverse is right next to 1st gear.... You'll be shifting it into reverse at red lights three times a week.

    These guys sell ex-lease vehicles

I don't know anything about them so can't endorse but it's another avenue to look at

    Thanks for the offer Mike,

Firearms locked up at a mates house in BOP, I arrive with the wife and two dogs and about 4 suitcases... Probably just grab a rental for a week and stay up in Auckland to find a ute unless I get something sorted this week.

I like the option of a 4wd and when I was in NZ last time I had a 2021 D-Max and used the 4WD a fair bit on farms collecting firewood, beaches, rivers and some light 4wd tracks down south as well as ski field access. If I get a boat then having the 4wd for steeper ramps and or beach launching is also a bonus.

Good to know about the modified utes, they seemed like too good of a deal. I will go stock and modify as I need, my D-max was stock and that was fine last time, only requirement is a canopy for the dogs but that can come later as they are both happy been back seat drivers / hair shedders/sand collectors.
