A new set of parabolic leaf springs will run you $4k plus and still may not be a lot better.
Why a lot of guys used to have couple of bags of sand or concrete posts on back of flat deck utes lol

I ended up being somewhat meh about it, I felt like I was left wanting, so in true Dannyb fashion I sold up both trucks and all my spares and picked up a tidyish 80 series. Truth be told I've wanted one since my first proper 4wd trip up the Wilberforce where I wheeled my trusty kzj78 with 2 mates both in 80 series wagons.
I remembered them sitting in aircon comfort, whilst I sweated away with my windows open. I remembered that whilst my kzj78 was very capable off-road it was a wallowing whale on the road.
Having driven a few 80s on road and off I knew they were much better behaved on road even lifted with big muddies.
I settled on a 92 fj80, yup she's a petrol drinker, about 50% cheaper than any diesel to buy and we all know that cost difference will buy a lot of petrol. She's well appointed with cruise control, android auto double din head unit with reverse camera, center consol fridge, 7 seats, rear ducted aircon, winch bar, winch, snorkel, rated recovery points front and back, new drilled and slotted rotors, near new 33"muds on steelies, part time 4wd conversion with manual hubs and a towbar.
She needs a little love, but so much nicer and more comfortable and definitely very capable.
She's a center diff lock only but no doubt I'll be fitting lockers to both axles at some point.

Found the same with the PX ranger XLT with canopy and tray on, the lack of decent parabolic springs from the factory made it bruising on bumps - every little pebble caused the bump stops to engage as the factory leafs were pretty much flat. Ended up with a custom 7-leaf parabolic setup from cambridge springmakers, and they are as good as anything I've tried lately although quite tall when empty. But of a stuff around balancing the front to the new setup in the back, a little stiff when the back is empty but good as gold with a 3500Kg trailer on or 700Kg of studlink chain in.

Yup will be lucky if it sees 5000km a year on the upper end of the scale. I'm certainly not stressed about running cost.
Today I rebuilt the winch control box it was full of corrosion, quick strip, sanded all the contact points and replace a few rusty bolts and the wich runs good as new, if not better.

pic before replacing bolts and removing corrosion

I think I need to replace all the soft lines in the brakes as the pedal was a bit spongy but built up good pressure if I pumped the brakes, I did a full bleed and got a bit of air out of the front passenger bleed nipple, it's better but still not great. I can see the soft lines swelling when the brakes are pumped so I think I'll replace them with braided lines.
The truck has brand new pads and rotors but the soft lines look quite old and perished (definitely no leaks though).

Check ih8mud.com - brilliant 80 series resource, especially for baselining, and fixes for unusual stuff.
