Maybe i dont know exactly how it works but we dumped it in and i was on the boat ready to back it out and scoop the boys when all this water started coming out the floor covers, thetes a bung in there! Weird set up that my mate said was sweet as but gave me the shits, especially when we are out there and have filled the underfloor with scallops and he pulls the bung out to give em water. Mean trick but fuck that shit. Put the bung in on land and take it out back on land i say

The Surtees are great boats. The old man has a 6.7m. Bit bigger than what the op is looking at but man it rides great. You can flood the keel and hold the water in there with a hinged flap. Adds weight and then it really punches though a sea well, just uses a bit more fuel. Reasonably stable at rest as well with the keel flooded, it is a big boat though. The brother inlaws 5.5 is nowhere near as stable. Good in a following sea. Another thing watch with them is to keep the bungs in the bottom of the live bait tank as it drains into the bilge, they have a tap in them fed by a pick in the bottom end of a rail by the boarding platform. One way the tap feeds the wash down hose the other way it fills the live bait tank. Get it wrong with the bungs out and you fill up the boat as you are travelling with everyone looking forward. Gives you a fright.

The Following/ sea ride is probably more important to me as its mostly onshore screaming Easterly that sends us home .

You should come with me, lately you would be lucky to get to the ramp. I had a mate with a brand new southern still in showroom condition and still is after 5 years. We got a kingfish at Stephens one day and the 3 crew member decided to keep it and bled it in the boat. Owner went mental, crew looks up and just says "what, its only blood"
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

Surtees have the trick in the bottom that locks the water in at rest, given better stability? do they still do that?

Good thread, looking at selling my baby stabie and upgrading to 5.5-6m for next summer. Looking hard at surtees 5.75 at the moment, hopefully can get a test ride in one.
    also an Amf, 5.8.
