    Which Bike ??

So I can't stop the itch for a new bike ( second hand ) . As the guys that ride know once bikes are in your blood it's even worse than guns.
Had a Kawasaki ZX1400 last time, 190 hp at the bike wheel and capable ( did ) 300km/h.
I don't have any pre - set idea's this time round other than it's gotta be fun, reliable and able to carry the odd pillion and fast.

Anything from a Harley to a Hayabusa, and Apriila to a Yamaha.......

My sister has a new ZX-6 which is a pretty impressive bit of kit, I don't ride road bikes but have had a quick squirt on it and it's definitely fast. She reckons it "rides itself" handles really well. She also has a 690 Duke R which is a fun bike.

aprilia’s out them, you’d need to be a 12 year old contortionist get comfortable as a pillion.
    Harleys out, you mentioned fast
Yamaha MT might fit the bill ?
    Naked or faired ?
Cheaper to rego under 600cc from memory.
    Inline 4, twin, triple ?
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Get a big bike (if you have had a ZX14 a 600 will seem gutless - don't get me wrong, they are fast, but there is no substitute for cc's) A naked will keep you cruising at "reasonable" speeds but with the power for a thrash when the time is right. I am a fan of the big Japanese 4s myself, but each to their own.
Put the rego on hold and take your chances. Just don't park illegally

    Comfort - check
    Handling - check
    Bigger than 900cc - check
    Torquey - check
    Revs (upto 7,500rpm) - check
    6 speed g/box - check
Sticky 17" tyres available - check
Pillion occasionally (or regularly) - check
    Luggage available - check
    450-500 kms/tank - check
    Mate - you need a BMW R1200RT
Got a 2005 (pre electronic suspension), and it's not out of place showing its exhaust pipe to a super sports bike that has an average rider as pilot.
Bought it a year ago - just over $12K.
Run new Pilot Road 4's on the wheels - very solid and surprisingly sticky for a touring type tyre.
Full luggage and a very happy wife. Can take her 'beauty shop', whenever we go away for a weekend with our local Ulysses Cub.

I looked at the Yamaha MT06 and the sportier version of same. If you are into power then there is no substitute for CCs and bugger the rego (There is not that much difference in rego between 250cc and 2300 cc -$435 per year to $585) all are stupidly dear considering most of the time its a tin top that didn't see you cos they weren't looking....

I must admit I love the look of the Royal Enfields. Cheap, cheerful and look like they are straight out of the 40s.

If you want real speed yes something sport bike. You did mention Harley and a passenger. Maybe a v rod.
I like the classic Harley more myself. I've had a r1, there cool but suck for comfort and you really need to do track days to ride like you want to. Late model Harley's are fast enough for the road. How much trouble do you want to get into.

I can't do a BMW, like the K1200R and K1300R, the real ugly ones but that's all.
Yeah the Enfeilds are pretty retro , nice bit of marketing...

Rode a MT09, another 40 hp and it would have been better.

    Speed Triple might be ok.
