AMI give a discount if you nave your Dayskipper certificate.
My father uses Club Marine, you pay lower premiums if there are months you don't use your boat (e.g. June, July).
We haven't had to make claim so don't know what they are like when it really matters!

Nautical Insurance, based in CH-CH. Specialist boat insurers and great to deal with and know their stuff
    www.nautical.co.nz
AMI where charging me double Nautical for less cover and were bloody hopeless to deal with (we had all our Insurance with them, House, Car, contents etc)

Actually "Am I Insured" is what I thought when we tried to make a couple of claims the seemed to go out of their way to find a loophole. For example the mower put 3 rocks thru 3 separate windows and they want to charge 3 excesses for 3 "separate" events. So the lady was quite surprised when I asked her for a cheque to refund us the unused premiums so I could go elsewhere, then the manager came out ........................ still got my cheque. Use a broker now for everything but the boat

Yep Nautical for me as well. Very happy with them.

I priced FMG vs Nautical for jet boat insurance and FMG was significantly cheaper and seems like good coverage

I did a lot of searching a couple of years ago and found Club Marine to be the cheapest, like Cigar has already said you get a discount for not actually taking your boat onto the water if you opt out certain months that you pick yourself. Personally I don’t take my boat out much over the winter months so manage to save a few bucks, you’re still insured where the boat is stored so if some thieving bastard takes a fancy to your boat you’re still covered.

Just had a quote from NZI for insurance on my little motorboat. It’s a 3.6m alloy pontoon with a 30hp 2006 merc tiller steer. Sum insured is $6000. Does $242 per year sound reasonable? This is my first boat and I have nothing to compare it to.

That sounds a little bit spendy. My cover is 30K for my 5.2m boat and premiums are $376

Yamaha Marine insurance. I got it through the boat shop in Napier when I bought my boat. Seemed pretty reasonable for the cover.
