I have a 2014 bt50 and the headlights are dogshit. Both low and high beam. I have spotties but don’t like driving with them on as I pretty much go blind if I have to dip them for an oncoming car. Anybody upgraded theirs and what did you get?

never seen a bt with bad headlights yet. i suggest theres a fault and not an upgrade issue
LED bulbs from STEDI in Australia, absolutely brilliant :)

I was talking to a auto electrician about upgrading bulbs in a new standard model hilux last week, these headlights are shit. Any how there are a few different companies doing after market bulbs like stedi but he said better off putting on spots or a light bar
installing aftermarket LED may void your WOF
If it's a standard H4 lens/unit then there are endless options for aftermarket LED/HID conversions.
May very well void WOF as mentioned above, since NZ govt seems to copy-paste australian legislation (ADR). But may also be no issue, depending who you get on the day.
Narva also sell "+50" to "+100" bulbs which have a different gas/fillament to provide more light.
Could pay to check out the loom and maybe run heavier gauge wiring and relays, since you may be getting considerable voltage drop with the old wiring.
Put Stedi bulbs in my colorado and they are very good however the truck knows they are not original equipment and tells me to check the headlights everytime I start it, just a small annoyance as can just clear the message but an annoyance all the same
If you put in LED bulbs to your Halogen housing youll probably run into issues for WOF or with the BCM (Body control module), however if youve got no issues changing back to halogen for WOF then change back to LED after then all good.
If you want to be fully legal you could look at some replacement housings out of Thailand/Ebay, as long as they have an E4 rating stamped on them youre good to go.
Changed my globes in the Ranger to 6700k white light halogens, been mint for general driving
Weird. My 2013 XLT Ranger has some of the best headlights I've ever driven with on a factory setup. It's one of the reasons I haven't replaced the ute, as the later ones are (and this is the charitable description) total garbage.
I do run the foglights permanently on (I live on a rural road that very nearly always has foggy patches in the dips) but both low and high beams are absolutely fine. I'd suggest checking the headlight loom for voltage drop and then trying the upgraded Narva bulbs as the first steps.
Do not put cheap leds in you will blow the bcm
No go for wof but just swap them out if it’s a issue
Dont wear sunglasses at night time..
I had the same issue with my Bt 50. Fitted Calibre H4 halogen bulbs from Supercheap.
5000k, so much whiter light than factory, also brighter and still wof compatible unlike the LED replacement options. Think they were $70 ish
I put the stedi ones in my Ranger, markedly superior, and got a warrant last week no question. Bit fiddly though in the ford.
Sounds like the BT has the same -pathetic- lights my previous PX2 Ranger had. Were in the same league as a 70's VeeDub Beatle, ie a couple of glow worms holding hands. The new Raptor is the opposite end of the spectrum.
My older son has a new Hilux and fitted a dedicated Stedi lightbar into the grille. That thing is impressive for its size.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Ended up replacing with a factory spec light. I’ll investigate this again after Christmas.
That's really bizarre, Ford must have fitted a few different types of lights to the PX2 series rangers. My 2013 XLT has some of the best factory lights I've ever used, both in amount of light and spread/depth of light they put out. Way better than the later model Raptors and the like - those things are like two toilet tubes staring into a blizzard. I drove a recent Wildtrack (not the latest) and was very underwhelmed. Would definitely need to fit front facing work lights to bolster the dip beam and driving lights to supplement the high beam. Makes you wonder what the hell Ford designers were doing between 2013 and 2021 - out on the piss probably and left the office admin people running the show.
The PX1 I had before the PX2 def had far better lights as has been said.
There is a possibility that my px2 still has the decent lights off the earlier model then - bonus for me! The later facelift version with the much narrower and shallower headlight reflectors definitely was nowhere near as good - and right up until the current model they haven't fixed that.
That's a very polite description of the worst headlights of any vechile on the road today.
The wife had a 2018 Ranger you sort of got used to how shit they were until you jumped straight into the same year hilux and you realise you've been driving in the dark.

Agree 100% I have asked Toyota if I can upgrade the bulbs but they said they can't because they
LED lights so the only way around is to put a light bar on & t I don't know if I want that lol never been in a vehicle with the light bar so don't really know what that like & I don't want to bright that I blind anyone coming around a tight corner as I travel a lot of narrow windy roads and you can't see people until you're on top of them so sometimes be the time you hit dip they pasted your.
My wife’s Skoda same year as my ranger has bloody brilliant headlights compared to the ranger..
