Spithill's little dig about Glenn Ashby being an Aussie winning the Auld Mug, doesn't ring quite true for me.
Wife's Grandfather and his brothers were quite well known in the scow sailing community - as builders and operators.
Refer "The Phantom Fleet" written by Ted Ashby.
Ashby's did spend quite a bit of time in Aus - bushmen and gold rush in Victoria.
They're also spread from Northland to Southern Hawke's Bay, so Glen may actually have Kiwi blood in his past.
More than Spithill having US blood relatives (not counting money).
Have to give Spithill credit though, his admitting that he was beaten by a better prepared, more creative unified team and looking very 'under dog' on TV, eating humble pie would've been pretty tough, for his aggressive attitude.

There is no doubt that as a sporting nation we punch well above our weight. Fan bloody tastic.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Apparently, Jimmy Spithill is way different off-camera to on and spent a fair amount of time at the TNZ shed after the race catching up and enjoying a beer with the boys. The entire US team was mostly Kiwi and Aussie though to be fair!!!
