Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 2007 Auto

Looking at one of these, Not heard much either way (good or bad) but most importantly missus like them
Any advise Autos seem hard to find
    Will be used for
General day to day drive for the missus.
Mobile dog box / hunting wagon
and must be capable to to 2 ton boat
    Around the $30K mark

Don't really like the latest ones they all look bloated (navara, ranger, colarado etc) and they are a tad expensive I mean a new HiLux according to the local radio ad is only $59,990.00
Not sure in whose world 60k is "only" but it sure ain't mine. even if I could afford one at that price I would never be allowed to take it somewhere it might get scratched
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

    Get the manual mate
We've had ours since new, 2007, 250,000 kms and we have not one issue with it. I also think the new ones look arse. 30k will get you a very tidy one

the last few years hilux seem over rated.
and i struggle to see why everyone wants to pay $25,000 for year 2000 hilux with 200,000+ kms.

i dont know much about the ranger, i do know a guy who had one for 100,000kms before getting the latest one, i didnt hear anything bad about it.

i was thinking an auto would be relaxing to drive. but im not so sure after my boss got one, driving it around in the mud in the last week.

we currently have a 2.8 SWB Pajero auto with rear LSD and its great for pulling up steep boat ramps, no slipping the clutch.
Not bad in 4WD mode either. Missus would like auto if its her daily drive

Get an auto I had the old rodeo and now a Colorado, which is for sale but only two wheel drive, Reason I went for auto is the low gearing, ie the revs go up and turbo in and it pulls locked in low, you cannot achieved that in a manual to high 1st gear takeoff no power, However a 4x4 may have a lower ratio check it out. Guy I talked to in Taupo and is a contractor in the bush says he's the same only autos now. I have an order in for a new Ranger in auto won't get till July/August with the slow supply. Didn't go for the Colorado as its gone to a 2.8, the VW is only 2.0 twin turbo so that's out. 3.2 5 cylinders yes. I have heard the new manual ranger has gearbox and clutch probs.

It's not the manual that has high gearing there is a switch on the box
For 1st gear that limits power out put of engine so lead foot drivers don't pop the box

Have only seen one ranger with gearbox problems and that was a farmer who was in 1st and 2nd all day every day and the dual mass flywheel couldn't handle it, the odd u joint and cv joints but all vehicles wear them

One of the companies I deal with hAs replaced 3 clutches in their new Mazda / rangers and had probs with 2 g/ boxes mostly driven on open rd
My rodeo manual 2wd couldn't pull a 250 kw motor on a trailer out of a site. Tarseal rd up hill, the auto didn't look back

I think the only thing with the 07's is the wheel bearings dont last as long as they should (cheap) and turbos all were a bit suss?

Also not sure what years but a memo went round all service agents to over fill rear diff by a liter as they overheated and shit themselves with heavy towing.

Pretty much all of em from that era any brand will shit 5th if used lots for heavy towing. Use 4th .
