I've heard conflicting opinions on it - some say it's the best some say it's shit. Does anybody know the truth? All I know is its getting super tempting to fill up there now it's $1.35

I use Gull diesel 100% and no complaints can't say if the truck seems to run better or mileage is more economic it certainly is cheaper at the local self fill than vouchers or fuel card
Cant comment on Gull as we dont have em down here unfortunately. But I will say all the major fuel company's come out of the same tank/ship round here
Only stories I have heard related to the petrol supposedly needing an octane boost as it came off the ship. Diesel seemed to be all the same as the rest.
All Gull fuel is good quality, it's all imported as the big 4 oil companies wont let them draw from Marsden Point, in fact there fuel is of better quality.
There Force 10 goes well in my big block, heaps better than BP & Mobils 98
If its imported from Oz, then I wouldnt touch it with a 10ft pole
Oz Diesel is SHITE..... and will fuck a late model HP injection system in a year or 2
I can prob tell you what the makeup is if I can find the analysis here...
I have run a fleet of thirty trucks on Gull diesel for the last eightenn months since the local BP franchise owner sold out and Gull took over. No problems with it
Hmm I've been running BP exclusively for over a year now. I've been told it (Gull) has water in it, and it fucks common rail fuel pumps, but I'm running a dirty old Hilux.
Gull diesel comes from a Singapore refinery and wont fuck engines, it's actually better quality than what is produced here in NZ.
There higher grade petrol has 10% ethanol (Force 10) and I run it in my stock standard 454ci corvette, runs like a dream.
Beavis - ofcourse your local BP retailer would say that especially if he has a Gull S/S 5 - 10 cents a litre cheaper than him around the corner.
I run trucks, diggers, utes and my boat on Gull diesel and alls well.
We have just completed a job on a $30 MIL Gin Palace and the skippers refuelling on Thursday, taking on over 100,000 litres of Gull diesel
Marsden Point refines product, fuel is sent to the Wiri oil terminal thru one pipeline, have you ever thought of how they seperate the different grades of fuel when they pump it???
It's not rocket science but lets just say nothing is wasted.
5ppm will ROOT a common rail setup in about 10 mins.
The issue with Oz fuel is Sulphur content. MANY issues with late model vehicles requiring complete fuel system replacement when only ~3 yrs old
Only when oil companies run there Depot bulk storage tanks low, they pump water in them and as fuel has a lower sg the fuel floats on top and is drawn off, sometimes they get it wrong and get a guts full of water and it's delivered to the S/S where the poor old punters cop it.
Remember a couple of years ago the Mobil site in Wellsford did just that, on a long weekend as well, shit it was on the 6 O'clock news.
On another occasion a certain Oil Company had a bulk storage tank with approx 1 million litres of Jet A1 in it, the steel bottom sprung a leak, they wanted to keep the tank in service as it supplied fuel to many customers so they continously ran water into the tank at a faster rate than the leak thereby keeping the fuel above the leak.
Well this had been going on for several months while the back room boffins got there shit together, budgets prepared etc and a long weekend comes along and some dopey maintenance worker accidently turns off the tap, the boys turn up after the long weekend and do a sounding on the tank and find its empty, all 1 million litres of the stuff gone.
They spent more money than the fuel was worth on consultants and trying to recover the stuffand doubt they would have recovered 1% of it.
Would be surprised if there was a service station that doesnt have some amount of water in all their storage tanks. You never want to be the guy filing up when the storage tank runs dry. Have also heard of guys dumping wrong fuel mixes back into the tanks "because it will dilute" when it hits the good 10 000 litres.
Delivery trucks are "flushed" all the time. Spent most of today inside a alloy tank on a truck that had multiple cracks on multiple dividers in the tank.Petrol and diesel mixing etc. Guarantee when it is put back into service tomorrow there will be at least 2 liters of water on its first delivery.(I just weld up the cracks not responsible for the water)
All good, I don't really know jack shit about fuel refining, delivery etc, just heard rumors from the guys that are into cars/engines etc at work. Cheap fuel it is :)
Sulphur is the lubrication in Diesel.. low sulphur, less lube.
Fine for an older Mech injected setup, but I wouldnt run it in a HP system
We have enough problems with it in Marine engines where clearances are bigger - the wear is greatly accelerated.
Filled up 1.6 million litres last time we bunkered :)
Never fill from a station that has the tanker truck there.....enzymes fuel tests as good ad anywhere else. If you're unlucky you might get a dose of h2o but most of the cases we see are through poor servicing or filling from drums. Common rail diesel systems create huge amounts of heat so the returning fuel to the tank is hot and ad it cools overnight cause condensation the same ad the windows in your house worse in vehicles with a plastic fuel tank. Try to keep your tank as full ad possible too. And dont believe all the scrap the media talk
Meant to say nz fuel tests as good as anywhere else.
That was a DP3 Specialised Construction vessel - one of 2 maybe 3 in the world - interesting job when not working on site, but boring as hell once on location.
On a toy at the mo, enroute to Bali to drop it off
Thats Awesome Spanners, i once worked on a stern trawler that held a similiar amount of fuel, we burnt 130ton from louisville ridge to lyttleton, spent a bit a time at sanfords Tauranga as shore engineer for the purse seine fleet, miss the boats but love the farming, enjoy your trip to bali
ethonal produced by the dairy industry is added to gull petrol...
I would put the added savings from less wear from NOT using Gull as being worth alot more then $110- more reason not to use it :)
Low Sulphur is BAD BAD stuff in modern HP pumps
