Hey guys,
I own a 2001 Freelander with the TD4 engine, haha yes I did admit that I own one, maybe I should have said I am enquiring for a friend.... Anyway the alternator has packed up and I have been quoted $515 to rebuild or $642 for a new one. You maybe thinking that these prices are nearly what the vehicle is worth :P so this is why I thought I would try my luck and find something second hand.
Does anyone know where one could be, or anywhere worth trying?

Paddock Spares in the UK hahahaha, its alright I sold mind, have an outer ball joint if you need one?
Haha hopefully can get something a bit closer to home. Don't need a ball joint at the moment thanks, but you never know when it will just fall apart :)Quote:

There is a guy in Auckland called Landrover Spares, I'd try there.
But I reckon your best bet is to get something from the UK (as that is what the Landrover Spares guy will do).
You've got Paddock Spares, Craddocks, Britpart, Rimmer Brothers and more. Shipping is usually pretty reasonable and quick too.

Does it have a vacuum pump or anything that requires new seals? I had my Nissan TD one overhauled and it blew the vacuum pump oil seal in a week spewing oil all over the engine bay. I got it 'fixed" by the auto-electrical ppl who washed their hands of it (assholes), blew again some months later 4 hours dive from home (I was in napier) so I went for a brand new one, been on 3 years no issues. So if its got anything like this just buy a new one IMHO.

@steven I don't think it has a vacuum pump... will definitely try and get a few more options and weigh up second hand, rebuild or new.
