There really are some Landiephobics around.
I've owned four - SWB Series 3 all original, LWB Stage 1 V8, Series 1 Discovery V8, and a Range Rover Classic.
In all those vehicles, I only ever had an alternator fail in the Disco, and a diff fail in the RR (at 167,000 miles!)
My RR was my club 4x4. It was standard bar a 50mm lift and and ARB locker in the rear diff as a result of the diff failure above. That truck was a dream off road and I would have put it up against any all comer in standard trim with a locker.
When I decided to sell it, the young guy that bought it was getting shit from his Jeep driving mates when they came to have a look at it. The shit continued on the day he collected it. I took him aside and told him to keep his mouth shut and his powder dry, and that if he had the driving ability, the RR had capability to knock his mates into next week.
He rang me back a couple of weeks later after their first off-road adventure and was crowing about the fact that he took my advice. He took the shit from his mates, but one by one during the day he had to recover each and every one of them, and at the end of the day was the only one that didn't need recovering. As a respectful LR owner he took the moral high ground and didn't stoop to shit slinging, but his mates had become strangely mute.
