Lighting up grade Questions for Ute

Hi Guy's
Having recently moved from a car with LED lights to a VW V6 ute I'm noticing the reduction in lighting.
This is basically a highway ute and just does light off-roading on farm or forestry roads.

Looking at either changing the bulbs over to LED ones and / or adding a lighting bar.
Want it to stay discreet so probably an under or over number plate mount.
Range is my first requirement, want to be able to spot the black cow on the road in time to stop.
I can run the fogs lights for extra width in close when required.

Looking for recommendations and suggestions with regards to brands, switching etc.

Have found the STEDI range in Aussie that look well sorted and they can supply mounts to suit.
LED bulbs for the existing High and Dipped beams,
Plus an under number plate mounted light bar in either 21.5 or 31.5" width.
Anyone got any feed back on these???

it all depends what LED bulbs you fit, most available online will not get you a WOF as the light scatter will be different compared to the original halogen.
if you are noticing a difference in output from what you are used to, are the lenses foggy? the reflectors tarnished and have you got reduced voltage at the light ?

Had two lightbars,hilux and zuk,plug and play, switch in cab,no problems with warrant.
Excellent quality light.
Swap them out and say nothing.

Thanks to our sweet transport agency fitting leds in place of halogen is not wofable

Read an interesting account somewhere of a guy who 'upgraded' his Prado bulbs to LED. He did lots of homework on the 'best ones to get'. Result was not good and after testing them out under different conditions he swapped them back. YMMV

Updating your exisiting bulbs (if H4) to the 80/100watt version is brilliant - I have it - BUT you should upgrade your lighting loom at the same time.

Also check what your reflectors etc are made of - I think the 80/100s are glass only unless the headlight is specifically rated. The heat is the issue

LEDs? Think colour temperature also. Try to see the lights in the dark, that you’re looking at - there’s a whole plethora of varying colour temperatures, which produce a resulting difference beam in both (perceived) intensity and colour tint (cold blue to warm yellow etc.

There are others more knowledgeable than me here - just try to see the options in the flesh so to speak

go measure the voltage at the bulb, check it with engine off then again pulling over 1000rpm so that the alternator is charging.
looking at modern car wiring the wiring is getting thinner all the time, i wouldn't recommend doubling the bulb wattage unless you were going to install a relay system.
light temperature is variable, but remember blue is the colour that the human eye is least sensitive to and also if you fitted lights that were 8000k they will give you one huge headache on long trips

also measure the voltage across the bulb terminals and from terminals to earth and also negative of battery
