The outboard will kick up like a normal one if it hits something. On a slight Vee hull like mine, they recommended to set the leading edge of the intake slightly above the lowest point of the hull to minimise water resistance.
You could bolt a 400 wide strip of uhmwpe down the keel line.
It would smooth out water flow and help it slide over stuff.
