Yep they have to do a wof check unless its obviously dangerous or in a state its not able to be checked properly ie covered in mud and crap

@Scotty Coming across many cracked b pillars yet?
Everything from chassis heave to seats not bolted thru heavy enuff panels leading to fatigue cracks , dodgy rust repairs to rotten floors.right now I'm doing a rubbish truck that got backed into by another one . Extensive frontal rush rush..... Ah well 34 hours left in the year
Don't get me started on transits and other euro campers,....
Got a transit here you think you can get fukn brake hoses for it pita
are they cables or hydro lines?? Think there's a place in Whangarei that makes them
Brake hoses have to get them made. Ford doesnt even do them
Failed on a cof
We can get them made by wairau brakes as long as they have the wierdo fitting for the front hoses
They may want to look at WHY they sid no too.....Our local said no to a WOF on our car but only because it is due after the christmas break and they are full of other people panicing to get WOFs done and they cannot squeeze us in...(Fair enough on that count, I should have been more organisied....) The old adage that" Disorganisation on your part does not make an emergency on my part......" comes to mind.
If they simply decided that they couldn't be arsed with the older car then in truth they wouldnot be a company I would trust with newer one either.....
You are allowed to take if for a wof whenever you like. What if you want to sell car with a wof less than 28 days old? They arent supposed to refuse..
I guess if you booked out your booked out but cant refuse you one just because its not expired yet
Each person that is able to issue WOF's can only do X number of WOF inspections per day. Once they have reached that number they cannot do any more.
So effectively can be booked out for several days, but I know several workshops that do not book out the max number of WOF per tech per day to keep the ability to slot a WOF in if needed.
Send a customer elsewhere because you can't do the work you risk the customer not coming back.
But then some customers you don't want coming back
Stupid thing with that, as far as I'm aware the timing thing means a wof is a wof. Single axle garden trailer gets the same time allowance as a 4x4 that's been run hard, needs every joint, mount and bearing given the thorough going over, everything needs adjusting including the seized headlight adjusters and everything inside that doesn't quite work right but needs to be checked anyway. Then you get a spankers 3yo car owned by granny who's done 4000Km in for the first wof which a kid could do with eyes closed...
Just ordered 3x wheel hubs for an 07 Xtrail, price in nz from supercheap/repco 1400-1500ish dollars - ordered the same bearing from broomfish nz for 140$ delivered that repco sells for $387 and 2 front hubs for 220$nz delivered from aussie that retails from repco for $507 each so pays to shop around 360$ in parts vs 1400$ plus is alot easier to swallow
regarding x-trails, they come with a tyre profile 65. if you keep the same width and go 70 profile the speedo will be correct.
also if they over rev on idle the on board diagnostics will tell you its the O2 sensor, chances are its not . you will have a pinhole leak in the manifold next to the O2 sensor. and a quick weld is far cheaper!
about 3 years ago i repaired the touchscreen on an EV, told the guy i never wanted to ever work on the pos ever again. guaranteed the work i did for 12 months.
today he wants me to do other electrical work, i say no. threatens to post a bad revue on google (not that i give a shit)
Well Im collecting parts to build another engine for the kart. Rip offs want up to $80 for a flat top piston. Got one for $8 delivered from ali express thats with rings pin and clips. I wonder what the quality will be like....
With prices like that I would expect Chinese bearings, I got a Chinese bearing from Repco years ago and there was no grease in it.
Price isn't the best choice to use for parts purchase, quality is what people should look for.
Top outer ball joints on a Hilux replaced every WOF until quality joints were installed.
Maybe the rear one is an ABD group bearing nz company so should be ok ish and the 2 front from aussie are 220$ shipped and reviews suggest they are decent for the money but in all reality it was a 1500$ xtrail with a cvt noise which was the front left inner cv bearing was sloppy as all fuck with no grease or roller bearings in the spider gears so was loose as all hell and that was the noise so doing the front hubs as at 220$ price why not flogged cv would have put abit of wear into one so just do both.
The kelpro fronts are 850 - pair and rears 880 each so better then 1650 bucks for the same function but higher quality bearings only going by name and price
Im just hope that the cvt gearbox last longer then the bearing/hubs and ill be happy
Yea thats why some stuff costs more....
personally i think caravans are a better option .....but if we must,
i cant atest to mechanical issues but bodywise they are all prone to rust and most s/h ones have been bodgied up to get thru COFs for another 6 months i call them land boats as they are essentially moneypits ....definitely transits are the worst you can imagine up here in thames/coro most are kept outside parked on grass near beaches so they succumb to cancer pretty quick the bus type of camper always end up with roof leaks (no-one ever gets up and checks the sealer at the panel joints ..... ) the newer ones with fibreglass or plastic bodies , well the cabinetry inside is up there with mitre 10 kitchen quality...... if i paid 100-200k i would want craftsman type finish . and most are front wheel drive which would struggle at clements road .
i have to admit my experience with campers has been tainted by the fact the majority of customers we have had in wanting repairs done are people that have sunk money into something that wasnt worth what they paid and arent wealthy enough to maintain them properly.
There's a certain model of transhit that runs a cambelt in the engine oil. Even tho they are supposed to be oil resistant they shit themselves even before the first cambelt change is due. Brakes on most of them need constant repairs as they dont get used enough, Transhit again your in trouble if the handbrake needs attention as you cant get rear calipers for them any more. Merc b pillars are starting to crack and once picked up on a cof its certified repair territory which I'm told can be $20k and upwards for that one.
transhits and the older toyota coaster sized buses and the mitsi canter type truck conversions are what we see a lot of
BOAT = Bring on another thousand
CAMPER = Cancel another million per every repair
Jeez this has gone from the rip off post to the shit vehicle and parts unavailability section
Interestingly often "rip off" is an individuals perception at the time.
if something looks simple and easy when performed by a killed professional tradie or engineer then what is often not apparent is how long and how much experience it has taken for that person to learn the task well enough to make it look "quick and easy"
Margins on parts is a whole different matter, usually if held ex stock margins are higher and if ordered as required smaller as its sold before it arrives so no need for storage and warehousing.
As far as skilled tradies and professionals then that is a definite totally different discussion but in my own trade those who are generally considered "older" workers now make up the bulk of the skilled workers. This really changed when "training" became an industry with certificates for all, rather than "training on the job".
Agreed
The one that gets me is people listing broken stuff on TardMe and saying "Could be an easy fix for someone in the know"
If ya don't know then how the fuck do ya know it's gonna be an easy fix, ya wanker?!?
Phew, now that I got that off my chest I have another acrostic for tac a1's list-
REPCO - Ripping Every Poor Cunt Off
HYUNDAI - Hope You Understand Nothing's Driveable And Inexpensive
