Whats the good oil on securing a trailer or in my case caravan. Has the old style coupling.

1-7/8 ball

In the past supplied the odd removable bollard that went within the towing frame
Not hard to make
Being in soil will need a larger concrete base
Yeah great idea for at home, not so practical away from home
both, the harder it is to steal the least chance of it happening. Just got back from a Burg inside a garage, they had a go at the boat but it had everything on it so it's still there. Pity about all the tools and other items thou. Wheel clamps aren't such the big thing now days with cordless drills and grinders, the old lock in the coupling would be the very least but also my first choice.
What about removing the coupling mount bolts, putting longer high tensile bolts/cap screws in, make up a 10mm plate that goes on the bolts/cap screws (under the chassis) that has a tab for a padlock on it.
To lock, turn the coupling handle upside down and put the lock through the tab and handle.
The lock could be protected from damage by the design of the tab.
@Gibo you can get a cheap GPS unit to put in yr van, has a SIM card and will notify your phone if it starts movin. $149 for the cheap one and you need a pay phone SIM card, plus you need to charge it every so often. Looking to get one for my boat!
I kept leaving all my shit at my olds place and parking my trailer in the way so they had to move it to get stuff out of the workshop..... someone moved it then got the post driver out and drove a deer fence strainer in the ground in the middle of the draw bar "V"
That learned me
use the chain thats already there and padlock the handle down tight....if they cant lift it,they cant uplift it.... if they cut the chain/padlock...well they will cut anything else you use.
And stop holidaying in South Auckland Gibo
type trailer lock into Trade me, heaps of deterrents
A cheapo car alarm? Some Aliexpress sensors?
@ Gibo
Sounds like your a little tight so what about this idea as it will solve both issues you have with your caravan and cost nothing!
1, Take a wheel off and nobody can steal the van!
2, Take a wheel off then you have a spare and don't have to try and find one!
I'm quite the problem solver when there's a tight budget! ;)
I'll have a guillotine coupling lock somewhere in the scrap pile that will fit.

How about taking the coupling with you.
Im starting to think selling the caravan would be easier:D
I give up
If it is light enough to turn around then park it with the drawbar against a wall. My caravan is a tandem with motor movers so its easy for me. It won't stop someone determined to steal it but it will take them time and effort to turn it around to hook it up and that might be deterrent enough.
Only security that works is wheel clamp
A thief that’s made his own tow ball bracket (15 inches wide) uses two short chains, one around the box section either side of the front coupling, lowers the jockey wheel to put the caravan weight onto the chains and drives away, he doesn’t need to use your coupling as the short chains take the weight and pull the caravan
Clamp that wheel or wheels tight
park a police car in front of it
I had a big / read expensive trailer stolen despite a Repco coupling lock. Decided to make the coupling easy to remove with a socket wrench. Takes me less than 5 minutes, and I leave a padlock in one of the empty bolt holes.
Hide it with a camo net.[emoji16]

How about jacking it up, put it on blocks and take the wheels off
A good start, but what we really need is one of these

Just waiting for Weyland-Yutani to roll out a non-lethal civ version - with purple dye. Then we can chase down the feral malefactor and put xe in the village stocks. Cue, rotten veggies.
Have I mentioned I hate thieves? they literally steal your life - the time you spent working and paying taxes to buy the stuff they steal. They need keelhauling. Along with the judges who set them free to steal again.

Perhaps a tad excessive :D
