So what have folks got? What works what would you change?
Going to be getting a canopy (in a month as the useless pricks haven't got it sorted, going to have a hard lid in the meantime which isn't going to workforce the dogs)
Just looking into drawers chests etc, like the look of DU-HA Tote Portable Ute Storage - Custom Utes NZ
Mainly going to be for tools and camping gear, need to leave room for 3 border collies in there.

Triton, sick of 3 wet dogs stinking up the back of a station wagon and dog hair on EVERYTHING hence the need for a ute. Was going to need 4wd so ute ticked all the boxes. (bit late now as I'm picking it up his weekend)Quote:

This is my setup, can take the divider out if needed. And also each side floor is seperate, can put pit bike in one side and dog in the other with gear undernea

@hillclima that's similar to what I had in mind, looks like a damn good set up. Could set the height to put plastic fish bins underneath as well

It's quite handy,can fit heap of stuff without dogs climbing over it
Mine is the height of the wheel arches but fits one of the shorter height fish bins like the photo. Can fit 2 per side

A bit more expensive but the advantages are:
1. Gull wing side doors make access to gear much easier
2. All hatches/doors are fully guttered - no water enters the back of the ute when you open them in the rain, and because of this, you can use an open side hatch as a rain shelter if needed.
3. All doors have slam locks just like a car door, so no twisty lock handles.
Have had mine on the Hilux for 3 years and all good.
I have also fitted a over canopy roof deck from Rhino and a single rack bar over the door pillar. Great for extra load space and for carrying kayaks or big tents. To overcome the whistle problem, I fitted the same rubber extrusion that goes on top of the bar to the bottom of the bar and capped the ends - zero noise.
Something else to consider, if the ute has no deck liner, use a sheet of marine ply instead. Easier to screw things too and less slippery than the plastic liner. Took my liner out and am in the process of building a new storage system

Pair of these and plywood. Give you a long strong drawer under a shelf for the mutts.
Build a lip around the platform for the dogs raised at The back with a overhang at the tailgate end over the drawer and coat with hippo liner or similar. You'll be able to hose it out.
Also some lockable slam latches for the drawer and you can store and lock your hunting gear away.
And for the K9 in your life..

Whatever you do, avoid Beaut Utes. Guy I work with had his back 6 times and still not happy.
