No experience with that particular engine and vehicle but that fuel economy sounds similar to other V6 petrols.
For what ever reason it seems that a petrol V6 in a ute/4x4 doesn't seem to give any better fuel consumption than a bigger capacity V8, meaning that both a V8 and V6 are going to be thirsty.
8km per litre is about 12L/100km which is about normal for open road driving, 6km per litre is what I would expect for towing or stop start city driving.
If you are doing lots of towing and city driving a diesel is probably going to cheaper to run, if it's mostly open road stuff then I'd stick with the petrol.
