When did the Hilux lose it's cool

I remember when Toyota was the make to have, my first car was a 85 Corolla GT & fuk it was cool, had a couple of others & the Hilux was the ute to have, having a SR5 was the Kiwi blokes dream.

Now I don't mind the ugly new Shaped Lux, they drive nice and apart from the horrid interior & exterior shape ( which they are fixing ) they are quite a nice truck, but what the fuk is up with the new "Bro love" TV commercial POOOWEEE !!!

Toyota you use to be cool, with cool ads. What happened ?

The wagon itself lost all credibility as an off roader with the sheep shagger....which wasnt really an issue as nobody else had one either.

I like the new add, good friends don't need to talk all the time.

    Dunno if they have.

A 2005 hilux will probably still sell for more, 5 years from now than a 2017 anything else😆

They started going down hill once they started fitting IFS. Yep better engines these days but the usability has taken a hit in an off road aspect.
Give me a solid axled one any day.

they seemed to go a different (read soft) direction with the Hilux moving it from a great off roader that was acceptable to drive on road .. to a city ute.

If I was in the market with money to spend , I'd be getting a double cab Landcruiser .. the proper ones that come with no back deck (you get to chose) ... or one of the others .. the ford ranger seems popular.

Anything but the new Hilux .... My cousin had one to tow his boat and said the traction control on it was stupid to the point where it was so dangerous he couldnt tow the boat with it !!!

The old corollas were rock solid .. a club I was involved with got left one by an old lady as a hack ... It was an awesome vehicle and its still going strong ... I parked it on the street once and there was a constant flow of little shitheads coming to the front door with their caps on backwards and their pants halfway down round their ankles coming to the door wanting to buy it .....

I have had my '94 3 litre TD manual for over 12 years now (it replaced my old 2.6 diesel HiLux that I did over 400,000 k's in). It goes wherever I point it off-road, and performs very well on the highway. I can see me keeping it for many years yet! The secret in off-roading is to stop and check uncertain areas before you plow into them, and to go at a pace that keeps all 4 wheels on the ground. That way you will always get home, and not have expensive repair bills. 'Dukes of Hazzard' crap is what kill most 4x4's! Toyotas rule!

There is a lot of 'bro moment' shit going on now. I see shitland street is showing a lot of it at the moment, not against it just rather not see it!
