I'll say it's light for what it is... Certainly lighter than any other bike in its class... With 1/3 more power...
But I guess realistically if I wasn't as big as I am, it would be a bit of handful.
Back on the XR650 - the R version is a fantastic bike if you can find one, plenty of power and a totally different bike to the standard XR series.
Had a TE450 Husqvarna - crushed 2 lumbar vertebrae and 6 weeks off work.
Decided that was too strong, so bought an Yam 250 trailbike - crushed 2 thoracic vertebrae and 5 weeks off work.
Both times, my 'experience' ruined a couple of beaut weekends away with mates - and my employment record.
Last time I crashed on a road bike was when I was an apprentice at Air NZ - 3 1/2 weeks off work and light duties in the office for 8 weeks.
Haven't 'gone to ground' since.
Currently riding a BMW R1200RT - magic.

Nothing too special mate, Husky TE310, been riding it round the last hour or so and I love the power delivery, has fists full of torque without being really snappy like a 450 motocrosser, but would still hang with the 250s in the tight stuff easy enough. Ohlins shock and Sachs up front are real nice. Wanted a bike for trail rides basically but im wary of wrecking myself on a dedicated motocrosser. Its currently got a numberplate on the front but I will put the light and stand back on it, throw a new rear tyre at it soon, and put some acerbis full handguards on it as the poxy roost guards on it don't do much for me. Also has a trailtech computer gizmo which is cool, shows rpm, temp and hours etc
I don't like the full on hand guards, I worry about going over the bars (a frequent occurence for me) and having snapping my forearms with the handguards. I just run the roost guards.
About two inches shorter than yours at a guess as I am 5'10'' which is quite a bit shy of giant status of course but this is irrelevant as you are riding a DRZ which is like me buying a xr230 and complaining the seat height is to low and its hard work going from sitting to standing and then the bars are too low standing.
Drz is a mobile lazyboy.
A 525 with a tall seat might suit

This is classic, I only ride it once.
For me if I choose a bike for hunting and fishing, I will use CRF250 since this will give more maneuverability over the hills, but CRF is loud too, too loud. The Yamaha tricker or Tw200 is much much quiet, but it would `nt suit you gents since I guess you all are above 180cm, weight over 180 lbs

Absolutely, nothing covers the ground quicker and living in the CNI I’m spoilt for choices.
Actually that's not true , this ones not as fast top speed wise but covers the ground quicker , only problem is ol mate that's pointing at the Piwakawaka can't come . Neither are quiet but like a Heli the noise soon clears out and your in the next gully/watershed before anyone knows, way less presence than a quad/sxs in the back country and you cover three to four times more ground easily.Attachment 223407

Got an 86 XR 100 and an 88 XR 200 in the shed. The 100 was my late Grandfathers Les’s farm bike, we did it up and gave it some love.

That bike is now nudging 600 hours, with only one piston/ring change at 250 hours. No important spinny roundy things changed other than tyres/pads/wheel bearings. has to be THE cheapest most fun 2 wheeler I have ever owned.
And just had a quote from the shop for a full engine rebuild........under 2K:omg::o:thumbsup::thumbsup:

take it easy on the four strokes fellas , I've ridden and raced bikes for along time now and continue to do so. The four strokes are reliable if you look after them, the 530 is a 2010 and has done 300 hrs on original piston and still goes like a champ, its raced national enduro rounds , did the one big day adventure ride around here a couple of summers ago 750kms in a day, done two Husqvarna hard enduros and countless others. On the gps with the stock gearing it'll hit 162 in 6th on shingle wide open , if I wasn't such lump it'd go even faster with smaller rear sprocket. The 450 is almost at 100 hours and on original piston and I just sold a 2016.5 450sxfe that had 202 hours on original piston. Hard part fan kits with a manual switch and plenty of oil/filter changes and they're good to go. The fuel injected bikes run so well and the your speed comes from carrying a higher gear rather than revving the tits off your bike.

No crashes but it took a while realise I couldn't ride like I used to, not too far off though.
.....yeah, used to bounce.....but sadly no more.
I have a seat for that Sherco. Off a '68 Honda step through C100. Only bitten once by the horse. $30.
