A week out I need to do some planning. What do you want us to bring tucker wise for Saturday evening? @Maca49 should we RV at the same place as last time on Friday morning and if so what time?
I'm now out, there's a memorial service on Friday for a very good friend that I will be attending instead.
No Good Names Left is bringing a rotisserie, so it will be available for anyone bring 'chunks' of meat down.
Note to self: "better get the power on down there":o
Otherwise bring stuff that can go on the smorgasboard table for the evening meal.
I'll crank out some home made bread.
I may even break out the potji pots and see what I can concoct.
Right at the moment I would suggest dressing for cool weather. 7 days time it all might have changed but I'll give people an update closer to the time.
Your turn for the whiskey Simon, I’ve drunk mine, @Rushy only drink Waikato water, below Arapuni
I'll scoop a bit of water out of the duck pond and throw in a bit of stock trough floaties and bottle it.Rushy won't taste the difference;)
I'll be coming down on the Friday morning, Rotisserie is available for all to use but we may need to steal some extra coals from the fire.
Right, I hope I am in the right bloody thread this time. All packed for the AGM of the Waikato Chapter of the Red Neck Anarchist Revolutionary Separatist Movement. See ya there fellahs.
Great stuff. The world will be a better place after we have sorted out all the global issues around the fire Saturday night:beer::beer::beer:
I'm hoping that @shift14 will have stacked up the 8 hares down in my bottom silage paddock friday evening, and we can have a potjie pot of hare casserole simmering. All recipies for hare gratefully received.
There will be a gas BBQ, a coals fired BBQ, and possibly @No good names left rotisserie all up and running Saturday avo/evening, just as long as @HuntBeta 's generator can handle the jandel!
So no, I don't think we will have to revert to hexe and mess tins:sarge:
Weather: We have had a couple of minus 4s and minus 2s these past few days. But the average is creeping up and although Saturday does not look like being one out of the box like wed/Thur/Fri have been. But overnight temps look like being around 6 degree mark. So positively balmy for the CNI this time of year.
Anyone want to come early, there's plenty of space to just chill out:thumbsup:
See you here.
Sorry I cant attend Simon. I hope you guys have a great time.
Have a Wakatoo for me Rushy and spare a thought for me on night shift!
Slaughter those hare B. I am looking forward to the promised potjie.
I'll bring the socket set, you turn while you drink 1 beer-then it's the next suckers turn to turn.
Or I could bring a gearbox to run off a cordless drill.
If someone can bring an extra cordless drill & a few batteries that would help.
Beef rump on the spit Friday night.
I would have liked to attend, but not back in NZ till Nov, so you guys have fun,
7mm WSM, a number #14 pheasant tail scared of the grizzly, i got charged buy, she broke the tip out of my fly rod, but I considered it a fair trade for a 300 stitch hiding i was going to get, and i hope you have an enjoyable trip.
I'll make use of yr batch this time pls Simon. :)
That's the two 'old farts' beds in the cottage accounted for now:beer:
You and Barry the hunter. May pay to bring ear muffs for a good nights sleep:thumbsup:
Duet of fadting and snoring. Hope the foundations are solid :)
2 sets of earplugs, nose & ears.
can't do much about the taste though
Hope the weather behaves and you guys enjoy the weekend i was planing on heading down to see my old mate in Taumarunui and drop in to say hi before headiing back to hospital on the 17th for a bone graft on my broken femor but I need to destock my place before that happens witch is this sunday so not going to make it BUGGER
The weather isn't going to be like the whole week has been (was perfect here), so we will have the Curtain sider down next to the firepit, and @Woody is bringing his big tarp over. So there will be plenty of shelter if the forecast drizzle hits us at 4pm.
@shift14 shot enough hares last night to feed everyone, so I'll have to drag out the BIG Potjie pot:o
The good thing is there is no wind:thumbsup:
XR500
All the best lads.
Hope the weather is kind to you.
Left some venny with Rushy to put on the plate.

Thanks for putting this on XR, it was great to meet the guys - and thecwrather was a lot better than anticipated.
Yep, was great to put some faces to names. Good food, great company and ripping yarns:D
And yep, the weather forecast was, as usual, waay off the mark. Only a wee bit of drizzle to keep the sparks down.

Yep. Good times had by all. Gummint and Co' got severely thrashed, scores of deer, pigs, pheasants and ducks bagged, good dogs remembered, spectacular bike and truck mishaps recalled and engineering design complexities explained, sawmills, chaInsaws, rigging sytems and cookers, to mention nust a few pf the subjects discussed all with the benifit of past hands- on pra tical experience. We need to create an xr500 party before the next elections I reckon :)
Sorry I couldn't make it. Meeting the fourm guys would have been really good. Glad it went well but it was probably destined to anyway. Hopefully there will be a "next one" that I can get to.
Thanks to Simon for hosting this gathering.
Thanks for hosting us Simon, and everyone that turned up, great to finally put faces to the names.
Thanks XR500 for your hospitality, efforts in venue preparation, and allowing radical discussion on just how pathetically useless those in authority over the Waikato River (and other such matters) truly are. While many of us bemoaned and ridiculed the powers that be, old mate Woody was in full turbo charged flight and soared like a Phoenix above us mere mortals.
Anyone recognise any of this stuff???
I know who owns the lightweight triangular plate and spork. The rest is up for auction...;)

I’ll collect the glass dish on my way to Kinloch one day, thanks Terry
Yep. There's my rum glass. Durnwd thing got empty and so I forgot about it @XR500 :)
That small square glass jar was mine, feel free to use or dispose of if as we've got heaps.
