Don’t be put off by the weather! Tokoroa is a covered shooting mound!
And we have the club rooms there as well So even with the current weather forecast of “Periods of rain, chance heavy late in the day. Northerlies strengthening” This event will still run!

Plenty of people registered – as always the numbers have gone up and down in the last few days. There is still a couple of spots open though at this stage.

Just a quick word on the round counts for Hunter and Open class. Hunter class has a minimum round count of 61 and every competitor should come along with about double this (~120). Open class has a minimum round count of 101 and competitors should come prepared with about ~180 rounds. Better to have this amount of ammunition available and not need it compared to needing it and not having it

Thanks for organising the event Simon.
All in all was a very well organised and run event, I think you did a great job with the variety of targets, madevit apparent to me that I need to practise my offhand shooting, just wish you would stop using that bloody fishing rod target! Its a real bastard.

Only issue I'd raise is a few of the targets I ranged with my range finder came up different than what you had ranged, not saying you were wrong but someone else mentioned that on the day.
I look forward to further 22LR events, a bit more relaxed and cheaper than centre fire events, and the Tssc is a great venue.

Just a question, how big is the little chicken on the "learn your limits" hunter class stage.

Thanks @Beetroot, you should have received some photos this morning.
Ha! That fishing rod target is awesome! One of my favourite targets - it is not going anywhere

Target ranges were good I thought, within a meter or two - how far out did you range them and was it raining when you ranged them? Did you range them in meters or yards?
Yes, I heard a brilliant story of someone else choosing not to believe the ranges given. They were so convinced I had the range wrong the competitor who shot first used his own range and missed everything - the next competitor in the squad used the ranges provided and cleaned the stage... I am pretty sure they ranged them while it was raining.

Those silhouettes used on the Hunter class "Learn Your Limits" stage are standard 22LR silhouettes. That chicken is small - only two competitors hit it. The body of that chicken is less than 20mm...

I was converting the ranges to yards, from memory was listed as 94m so 102yds, I ranged at 111yds and after the event was over and got 3 consecutive hits in the smallest chicken.
I had a discrepancy with a few others also.

I must say I had far better luck this time round with the fishing rod, I'll have to make my own to get some practice in.

That set of targets I had at 96m so 105yards. If it was actually 111yards you would have needed something like 0.2MIL extra in your elevation - this would have been enough to miss the chicken and you would have had ok hits on the ram and turkey but a pretty borderline hit on the pig. There is always the chance I ranged a bit of ground in front of the target number and called it short - I apologise for that.

@Gillie no worries, I wasn't in contention to win as I royal cocked up the "Bank it" stage. Perhaps could put the target numbers right next to the target would make it easy to range.

But still 10/10 for the competition, will definitely be at the next one!

@Beetroot the numbers were right next to the targets...

I was surprised that the "Bank it" stage in hunter class was one of the lower scoring stages. Based on the stage design I didn't expect people to struggle with it. Take 30 seconds to hit the close target three times standing - drop to a supported prone and hit the second target three times - at the end or at any stage you think you are running short of time hit the bank target to keep score gained. The bank target wasn't too small although the time limit probably distracted a few people?

@Gillie the time limit freaked me out a bit so I rushed the standing shots and had a lot of misses and in turn took to long, I then got to hits on the prone target and went to "Bank" my score but had run out of ammo and ran out of time when reloading. Happened to someone else on my squad too!

Had I shot it later in the day I probably wouldn't have rushed so much and done a lot better.
It was a good stage definitely put my under pressure by the time limit, but the target sizes and ranges were very fair.
