    Best assisted opening pocket knife

Hi guys, I’m in the states at the moment and need/want a new knife for edc, must have a long un serrated blade around 4” or 100mm with a solid lock and pocket clip.

I know a few members here are knife gurus so I thought I would ask before I buy.

    Cheers in advance
    Rob

Benchmade make very good quality folding knives.
    kiwijames and tikka like this.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Zero tolerance make extremely strong knives, but strider also make good ones, also hinderer, spyderco or Emerson. By assisted opening are you referring to a flipper style blade where a internal spring adds some velocity to the opening or are you meaning some kind of push button flick or automatic knife.
Other options are a butterfly style knife, these are of course not allowed in NZ, but if you bought one in a kit, and assembled it here then it MAY pass muster.

Worst case is it might be seized, and you should be able to retrospectively apply for an import permit as a collector.

Assisted openers seem to be a tad inconsistent; I had to import permit mine, yet others here have reported no issues

Note assisted opener knife, as distinct from a flick, or automatic opener type knife; you’ll get grief over them full stop imho.

Think about your travel home and which borders you’re crossing; might be simpler to post to yourself and deal with NZ customs that way when you get home?

I dont have any flippers but if I was stateside I’d hunt down a couple mod folders. Benchmade Bugout. Ticks all your boxes or a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is fantastic and is around the size and style you list also. The compression lock is super strong and it is a very well made knife.
Chris Reeves Sebanza is another beautiful knife that may be better bought on US soil for best prices.

I had (and lost) a SOG twitch 2. Not as big as you are wanting but it had a great opening mechanism.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

Currently got a crkt M21 has a flipper 'handle' makes it very quick and easy to open, use it instead of having a fixed blade (getting in out of trucks it doesn't work even scout carry) takes a bit to learn the closing system as there is a safety on it but can be done one handed easy enough

Yeah or don’t let it get snagged out of your pocket while tracking a wounded deer through the crap.
