I stopped buying cheap socks years ago and have never looked back. I like to buy several pairs of the same at the same time. Work supplies my work socks now, but in the past, I used to buy 6-7 pairs all the same for daily wear throughout the week. Put them all in one draw and a lucky dip always gets you a matching pair, no orphans unless you loose 11 or 13 socks and they all wear out at the same rate. Once you need to cull out the ones with holes, they basically all need culling at the same time. Then just buy a whole new set. Bigger outlay up front but saves money in the long term.
