    Big Arse Fly

    I'm after a big 6m X 6m fly. Needs to brand new from a supplier/retailer.

I asked at both Kathmandu, and Torpedo 7 and got look at like I was a weirdo...

I checked with a Twinneedle who made me a lovely super light 2m X 3m fly years ago (still going strong) but they no longer make them.

Where or who to from here?

Is it worth talking to a sympathetic and competent upholsterer who can access the appropriate fabric???

No doesn't have to lightweight, think base camp from 4WD etc.

Yes, I might go down that line.

Well - the old Railway Tarps are as good as you can get
Still a few stashed away in the Southern Pureora I imagine - bloody strong - but bloody heavy.
No wonder back in those days the NZ Rail ran at a loss

I got one made for me by a canvas maker out of rip stop nylon.
Was the shiz till one particular storm in Fiordland had most of it in shreds. The bigger the fly the more wind it catches.

Google is your friend, 6 x 6m is quite big & yes will make a great sail, but there must be some around.

This looks pretty good value even though its Oz $$$

Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!

MSR do a 5.5x4.8 catenary cut with a couple of poles. Quite lightweight for the coverage.

    Rendezvous 200

I have an older model, a bit bigger and heavier.

    Cheers Cliff

They used to hire planes to fly around looking for those tarps. The amount they found made it worthwhile doing ha ha. Everyone seemed to have one to cover the firewood etc
