Sorry to say this but I would be surprised if that can be repaired in a way that will last. Looks like the mid sole is "decomposing". I would be interested to hear if you find anyone that can do a permanent fix though.

Yes the mid sole seems brittle and letting go, both boots are doing it, they not very old with minor wear on them.

Bostik seal n flex polyurethane sealant , clean out dirt etc with solvent pump heaps in and clamp in vice etc for a week to go off and you will get a few more months out of them .

It is a common (and bloody annoying) problem these days. Even with very expensive quality boots. I have had a number of pairs fall apart in the same way and there is not a lot you can do. I have used a lot of glues but the problem is not the glue letting go but the mid sole breaking up. As said above, gluing will get you another couple of months but you don't way to be caught out with the sole coming off mid way through a trip. I once found a Meindl sole lying on the ground way out past Ballard hut in the Kawekas. Pity the poor bugger that had to walk out with one fucked boot.

I'm also following this thread with interest, I've sent 4 pairs of meindl airstreams off for re-soling (to various outfits) but haven't had a satisfactory outcome yet. We'd worn the soles out but the uppers were still in reasonable condition. Decided that 2 years service from a boot was going to be what i had to accept, which was better than 18 months max from other boots we tried.

I feel your pain. The rest of the boot is in 8/10 condition but it is no good without a sole. Hard to swallow when you pay $600+ for a pair.

Interesting. I had Meindl boots. Good while they lasted but with a heap of life still in the uppers and plenty of tread left the midsole just crumbled away. Always give my footwear a good clean when I'm back, dry out of sunlight and treat the leather. Not yet had the same failure with other brands.
Never gone back to Meindl since.

With you on that @Tahr. I have 3 pairs of Salewa boots and one pair of shoes. Best fitting boots I have ever owned. Shame for NZ retailers you can buy them for half the price overseas.

There is a guy in Ashburton who does them. Go and see Joel at Stager and he will organise new soles to fit and the guy in Ashburton will fit them. He did a pair of Meindl boots for us, even replaced the rand. Made a really good job of them but reasonably expensive.

Can’t remember his name and I’m away on holiday, but Joel will tell you.

Plus four for the Salewas, great boots so far. Into fourth year with my first pair on weekly use and sole about two thirds worn but upper still 95 % condition.
