Thread: budget rifle scopes for 308

Kiaora folks,
Well my rifle scope is well and truly fogged up now, so I've probably got limited uses on it before i have to get a new one.
I'm at uni and a pretty big jew so on a fairly low budget.
I know people will say buy once cry once and you get what you pay for etc, but I need a scope and I don't have the money for anything extravagant.
I'd like a 3-12 sort of magnification range just so I've got all my bases covered.

So far the ones I'm looking at are:

- bushnell banner 4-12 Bushnell - 4-12x 40mm - Multi-X


Any body had any experience (good or bad) with these? Are there any other blatantly decent cheap scopes I should consider?

Any help would be appreciated. Its for a 308

Dont get a Weaver classic, Bushnell are ok for the money.

Of those two I would go the Bushnell. Good quality for what you pay for them.

Have you thought about maybe buying a second hand leupold,Zeiss or even a new Vortex?
Vortex are good value for money.

Nikko sterling are actually very good for the money (cheap) the nighteaters especially so. Get one and you'll still have enough to buy a weeks worth of mince and instant noodles possibly two weeks.

lol cheers for the input.. knocked the nail on the head there with the noodles got some on the go as we speak.

Does anybody know of any remedies for getting the fog out of the scope? I was thinking giving a hair dryer a go (obviously don't have one of those either)

and yeah considering second hand everything pretty much hence why I haven't bought anything yet.. will keep my eyes peeled

If there is a warrenty try that if not you might be able to dry it out and swap it with some kid for a stick of gum so he can burn spiders in the sun?

If there's no warranty on it would the same principal as getting moisture out of anything electrical work? Bury it in a container of rice and letting it sit on the hot water cylinder for a few days. If the moisture got in there then hopefully the rice can draw the moisture out of there.

You could try putting it in a sealed container with some dessicant/silica gel baggies in a warm place. It would be a little more gentle than a hair dryer and you might find the fog just reappears on cooling if you clear it with a hair dryer. No 1st hand experience with a scope though it did get a watch working again after getting wet inside and fogging.

dang, beat me to it!

Damp rid calcium chloride is "more suckie" than silica gel. Make sure the bag is absolutly airtight or you will try and dry up the planet. Then just use that scope on fine days as if it got in once it'll do it again.

If looking at new scopes the Nikon prostaff range are good value.
Probably somewhere around leupold vx2 quality for vx1 price.
2.5-10, 3-15 or 4-16. Etc
