Bush tucker - what do you carry in?

    G'day guys!

I'm wondering what food everyone carries into the bush for good easy meals (aside from the freeze-dry stuff). Any cheeky tips on what everyone's "go-to" is? Might be a few little-known tricks out there that make the walk in just that little bit easier.

    Cher!

I have some old school little Marmite jars that I crack eggs into. Works well.
And I put rice crackers in another and have cheese with them.

I was one of the 1st to do Vac pack meat for bush use I reckon ??

Was great as when got to camp - put it in creek near camp and would keep for weeks
Used to get a Taumarunui butcher to do it in their flash new Vac machine that was huge compared to them these days.

Most bush Creeks even in summer are cold enough to keep the Vac Pak at near fridge Temp
Lost one lot in a summer deluge - so used a wire cage with a big rock and tie back after that :-)

There's a lot of lightweight easy stuff that's a lot cheaper than freeze dri. Pasta meals with diced salami, cheesy mash is a good side, bacon and cheese wrap with bbq sauce.

Powdered soups. Rice (can cook with the powdered soup or other bits and bobs). Mixed nuts. Nut bars. Only done one nighters so usually don't bring much. Nuts are fatty enough to get by on but its nice to have rice and soups too. Rice is easy to cook in a light billy as long as there is a lid. Some nice fresh heart and liver if you get something before dark would be a real treat, so maybe bring a tiny sachet of salt to help with that.

Some people buy a dehydrator and make their own dehydrated meals. There was a thread on that here.

Surprise peas + dried onion in one snaplock bag, instant mashed spud + parmesan cheese in another.
Add peas + onion to cold water, bring to boil. Leave for a few minutes, then add spud & parmesan.
Fry up some chorizo to chuck on top if no fresh eye fillets

This chorizo & tomato couscous went down a treat as well.
