    Wire brush or a dremel if you have one, get rid of it, rust begets rust.

    Anyone know what this timber is? I have had it for years, was going to carve something with it. If it works as a handle though I might as well use it. Nice long straight grain. Quite heavy though.

    I think it’s darker than both of those. It’s a very dark cherry

    Could you post a close up of a freshly cut surface going with the grain? Just whittle a little patch down to fresh wood.

    If it's heavy my guess is maire.Split a small sliver off and try light it with lighter.If it burns easily and pops n sparks it's probably totora.If it burns slow or not at all go with my first guess
