    cooking on a Jetboil

    Am planning a 4-5 overnighter along the tops and want to go lightweight. I use a Jetboil for drinks and dehi meals etc. But am hoping to put something on the deck and was wondering if an ordinary frypan works ok on jetboil using the extra pot holder ring thingy? Or is it better to carry a frypan with a flux ring?

    I used my Primus ETA lite (similar to jetboil) recently for that, not ideal but got the job done. The thicker the base on the pan the better, to help spread the heat.

    There is a small jetboil trivet available that allows successful use of a conventional frypan

    But it's heat is very concentrated so you have to micro manage any frying or it will revert to carbon

    I have the Primus version of jet boil too, it has small spacer you screw in to create a small to base of frying pan. Never tried it but I guess this would help. Other option would be carry a small old style gas top which work better with frying pan.

    The Jet Boil Frypan works really well, its not that heavy, only downside is that you would not likely to use on a fire.

    I have also used a light weight titanium fry pan on the jet boil, it works but wasnt as good, a cheap non stick from K-Mart works better.

    Does that frypan have a flux ring on the bottom of it to make it work like the standard Jetboil top? Or is it just sitting on the ring thingy you buy as an after thought so you can cook using ordinary pots etc?

    With the jetboil frying pan be aware that it's easy to forget to remove the plate that clips on to the bottom
    Might have been the lack of light in tent or might have been whiskey

    Ive looked at mine and reckon would get away with something to create spacer.two fat tentpegs pops to mind to green sticks would work in a pinch,your steak would be burnt before they would loose structural integrity.the new ones have three wee feet around rim that can pop up to hold a pan. now a decent skillet would work a treat to transpher heat but would be heavy.

    try a hubcap mickey if you can find one -idea came back to me from my TF days when one of our RF cadre NCOs used one as frypan /wok on his gas stove!1

    Mate..reading that,I just know one of the menenials will try it with the plastic wheel covers...... I do actually still have proper chromed hubcaps on my trailer LOL.

    Chuck a flat rock in the fireplace embers and cook on that. smoky and rare. Yum.
    I have a BRS titanium cooker and struggle to get it to simmering temperatures.

    Bit difficult to find enough firewood to actually start a fire on the tops Im planning on hunting. But cooking steaks on flat rocks is some of the best tucker I've had.

    if you do that..be cautious....many folks have been injured by rocks exploding when heated in fire.Ive cooked steak on shovel before....

    sliced up thin,you can cook steak pretty much anyway you like...I did goose breasts in 2minute noodles last year and it was simply superb, didnt have any oil or butter to use so tried it...definately would do so again ,venison would be the same,basically broiled it quickly.

    you would get away with pretty much any lightweight frypan/dixie if you prepared to hold handle to keep it above flame...same goes for most small hot burners,got to keep pan moving ,the more lube/oil/butter/marg in the pan the easier it is.
