If its those working gloves you see in Mitre10 etc, probably not the best option for keeping warm. They won't actually insulate agains't cold. Anything solid that gives your fingers more surface area than they had to start with will suck the heat out of them rather than keep it in.
Those ninja/polar bear gloves are very warm. They’re not just a skin, they have a nice cosy insulation layer without being too thick.
Like all gloves, put them on before your hands start getting too cold.. much easier to keep heat than gain it back.

Yeah, they look like the sort that you see used by people who handle refrigrated and frozen goods. I see them wearing similar gloves in the supermarkets when they fill the freezers.
