Airfreight will be the only way forward, containerised sea freight is going to grind to a halt.

US suspends postal deliveries to New Zealand
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has suspended mail deliveries to New Zealand due to an unavailability of transportation.

Not so sure about this. The demand in China for empty containers to ship out exports is so high at the moment, shipping companies make moor money taking exports to the US etc and returning with empty containers than they do shipping full containers both ways to NZ and Australia especially considering the difficulties getting sorted at our ports due to quarantine and requirements and capacity issues etc....

If a shipping company has to choose between a faster (empty boat) run that is more profitable and a slower full and less profitable run then it is an easy choice....This was starting to happen pre covid and I saw an article about 2016 by a shipping company here in NZ suggesting that in 5 or 6 years (about now...) we may need to look at subsidising shipping to get it to travel to our country or set up a dedicated Aus/ NZ transfer company so freight could be shipped to Aussie and we could 'pick it up from there....." I remember the rreaction was something along the lines of they were being self centred / wanting more money / excuse to jack up prices etc...but to me it looks like their prediction was closer to the mark than anyone would have liked....

I think DHL is the best option as they have their own planes. At origin ask for shipping via DHL

Yeah thats what I was meaning.... grind to a halt here in NZ. Ships have been dropping off runs and less runs being done for the last 2 yrs and now they cant get them discharged / loaded here without huge delays tied up along side which adds to the cost.

Surface hasn't been an option for a while based on my experience. I keep funds in the US and my mate there forwards stuff I fancy. Got some tooling in about four months ago and the cheapest freight option ( still some sort of airmail) took about ten bloody weeks to get here at an exorbitant price.

Weird thing- about three weeks ago, bought an anti-reflective screen protector for my tablet to use on our electronic targets. Sent from the UK and got here in about a week!!

    They are crap
    UPS is far better

I used to use DHL - yes - good shipment time to AKL - then bloody useless - would never Pre clear - always wait for arrival AKL then do clearance and insist on using Credit Card for clearance @2% fee which is a lot when talking 10-20K
So take 3 days sitting AKL waiting for this clearance

    No - UPS
Pre-Clear all as soon as leave origin country
No CCard BS - Bank Transfer etc etc

I used FedEx once for a scope. Wasn't my choice, for some reason Opticzone sent it via them.
Arrived in Auckland in good time. FedEx contacted me to reimburse them for the gst that they paid on my behalf, then they wold release.
Rang them with CC details and asked for them to hold scope as I would collect. Yep, no problem.
Drove up the same day, 1 1/2 -hour drive thru the usual Auckland shit traffic.
At depot they spent around 20 minutes searching for my parcel only to tell me they had just given it to a courier. Exactly what I didn't want to happen.
Could they call the courier please and I would meet said courier somewhere and grab my scope. No they couldn't do that.
    Returned home mightily pissed off.
2 days later my scope arrived at my home.

What part of USA was the supplier? I think that greatly affects the delays as i have some goodies heading my way from Minnesota which have to go through CHICAGO IL INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTERl.............which is the worst USPS depot. My goodies were dispatched 2 September and went into Chicago 3 September then last heard of 7 September.

    In Transit to Next Facility
Your package is moving within the USPS network and is on track to be delivered to its final destination. It is currently in transit to the next facility.

whatever the "next facility" may be.... A storage warehouse until the Covid pandemic no longer exists.i suppose . Sigh. The last delivery from Minnesota took 7 weeks + to reach me... this one 7 years??.

USPS shipping has always been hit and miss.
I've been importing projectiles for the last 5 years.
Some shipments would be at my door within a couple of weeks.
Others a couple of months. No rhyme or reason.

One shipment went from California to Asia to Europe and kept traveling (but not to NZ).
My supplier sent a replacement shipment to me.
Six months later the original shipment arrived back at their door !!!

Just been notified by Brownells: ORDER CANCELLED DUE TO SHIPPING SUSPENSION by USPS.

Good excuse now for escalation in prices again for our friendly retailers.

Was that when you ordered your zimmer? @zimmer man the carbon footprint on that is nuts

Or an opportunity for someone in logistics to route via other destinations from US to ultimately NZ?
