    Flambeau Rifle Case

Anyone used one of these? What are they like?

Use just for car travel. Nothing too extreme

I have one, it’s fine, although I don’t use it much. Decent enough quality.

Slightly too long to fit across my back seat from memory, and if you have a scope with tallish turrets on the side - parallax + windage - it can be a bit narrow and squeeze the scope a bit. Fine for normal hunting scopes though, as long as parallax and windage are both reasonably low profile.

Thanks mate. Seems like a good deal for the price. SCA case is the other option but does seem a tad overkill for me at this stage

I've had one for years. I like mine. Very good case but probably wouldn't give total protection from side damage. But none of that style do. Seem to remember them being infused with some sort of rust preventative but don't see mention of that in the link.
Just fitted across the back of my L200 with either end pushed underneath the moulded door handles. Run the tape over your intended vehicle.

Bit of a laugh - when I was looking buying a Ford Ranger (I didn't thank goodness) I took that gun case along to try the fit. The car shark was a bit surprised!

I have a similar one (I think it's basically a Flambeau but rebranded Remington). The only difference I could see is the logo at any rate.

I have Pelican cases as well, and a couple of smaller SCA brand ones. The SCA case will offer protection for the contents, where from what I've seen the Flambeau type is really a glorified heavy foam padded case and there really isn't much else to say about it.

I use mine in the back of the ute, it's OK for that and you could argue better than the thin soft zipped rifle bags but what I don't like about it is the lack of width inside. A larger 50mm scope basically squashes the foam flat inside and the scope is the padding. At least the padded bags flex around the scope so that the foam padding will still protect the scope a bit.

The one advantage of the Flambeau type over a bag is that it's padlock lockable. Although 0.2seconds with a leatherman and the plastic lock point would be cut off so I dunno... Depends what you want in a case really, but if you are expecting the case to offer protection get the SCA version and be reassured.

Downside to the SCA type cases or Pelican cases? They are 'weapon' cases, in that with the contents out or disabled you could still pick the case up, club someone and do some serious damage with it!
