[QUOTE=Happy Jack;1736268 in August tramping up Mt Robert, first time for blisters for years so will look into some thin liner socks to add maybe even the toe socks.[/QUOTE]

I didn't find that a difficult walk, except coming down the Pinchgut end. Found footwear fit inadequate, as well as a walking pole importance coming down. Unbelievably met young couple with a baby and a pram carrying both up the Pinchgut.

You have to admire tourists with determination

I got a couple of pairs of the Kuiu socks - one is quite thick with lots of padded sections, the other has less padding and some mesh sections. They look the bizzo but to be honest I prefer their own brand NZ Sock Co. hikers.

You could also get compression socks to wear under your regular socks to help support/improve circulation in your feet and keeps you feeling light for longer. Otherwise just wear them alone if you want thin.

Yes I was surprised to get blisters having done some steeper stuff in the preceding months in the same boot/sock combo

Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

Thanks People! Those Injinji socks look perfect. Its my toes that are the main issue for blisters. They hurt like hell once a blister comes. Going to town today so I’ll grab some.

I’ve now got 18 pairs of ‘creeper’ toe socks. Started using them for long distance running, and now use them for almost every time I wear shoes. They have just started making a thicker hiking version, which I have purchased but not yet worn. I have no doubt they will be great. Interestingly, my feet have spread a little in the fore foot, and a slimmer pair of Solomon shoes I have, now feel too narrow, but I think I’m better for it.

    Second that.
Wear em for everything. Hunting, hiking, mulling about the farm, or to keep warm in winter

I've always worn a thin pair and then a boot sock, just like my Da showed me, don't get blisters ever. Have just lately been using a thin pair of toe socks and then a boot sock....should of done it years ago, definitely more room and my toes don't feel like they've been in a vice all day

As an aside. I used to cut the bottom of the legs off my wife's old winter stockings to put over my gumboot socks to save them wearing at the heals. Times were tough.
