    Hunters Element XTR Jacket

This jacket seems to be light and very waterproof. I like the green version. I don't want to look like Rambo, if I don't need to. How does this brand compare to other NZ brands like Swazi, Stoney Creek, Ridgeline? What about the allround jacket?

I have both the Stoney Creek and the XTR. Both are great jackets and will keep you dry. I like the weight of the XTR but is not as sturdy as the stoney creek gear, i mainly use it in the maimai or blind for geese and ducks. If you are hunting in bush a lot and pushing through brush I would go for stoney creek. Swazi is also great but the material holds water and is hard as hell to dry out on a multi day trip. And would take any of the above over ridge line.

Are you talking about the XTR Extreme Hunter at 670g, or the XTR Jacket at 1,000g? The Extreme seems pretty well priced for what it is, and out of the 2 it would be the one I would be buying due to it not having large bellowed pockets which are useless when wearing a pack with a hipbelt. Since that is what I want a hardshell jacket for specifically, my choice might be completely different to yours... Anyway, neither are really that light when compared to high end mountaineering/trekking type shells such as Arc'Teryx, but are substantially cheaper... For example the Arc'Teryx Theta AR is 265g lighter than the Extreme, but your wallet will be at least $200 lighter for the privilege! The Theta SVX is 220g lighter, but more expensive again. Both are made of good material, particularly the SVX, and probably better made and better fitting. I'm most likely going to get a AR in Black
If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

Ive got a Soney creek tarn jacket and one of these XTR jackets. Both are great jackets - the XTR is nice and light with heaps of features, what I like is that it dries really quickly and seems to keep you dry for long periods. I take the XTR on my walk in hunts to keep the weight down and use the Tarn when im heading into some real shit weather. I reckon if you wanted a all round jacket go for the XTR.....
