Thread: Light weight mid layer wind break

This top is my go too for year round. Light weight, long and is windproof.
Wear just a tee underneath when its warm, a thermal when its cool and a rain layer or swannie over top when its cold.
And cheap.
I live in it, especially during the roar.

They look great and I love the made in nz ethos. However the price difference between a macpac pisa and the ESS is pretty hard to ignore...

Another vote for macpac pisa. It's all I've used this year and works mint glassing in the morning in wind.

You can make your own system by buying something like the macpac nitro and then pair with a shell. Personally I never leave camp without a goretx jacket anyway so I may as well use it.

Switching to Nitro + montbell rain jacket which combined weighs less than a fleece top.

It’s very high end and top dollar. I guess it helps knowing that if you tear it up they’ll repair it, often free of charge. In my opinion it’s a jacket that would easily last 10 years. Extremely pleased with mine. But once cry once mentality with this one

Got one recently, really like it.

I was gifted one of these a couple of years ago and wear it on the ski. It works bloody well.

For a mid layer I typically use a Swazi micro shirt, love that shirt

On recommendations on this thread just bought a Macpac Ion and at $85 is a good buy.

I was out in the wind with it today & very impressed with fit, feel, weight, so it’ll be a hard one to decide which shirt I take on the next hunt.

Thanks to all for lots of great suggestions, decided to go with the MacPac Pisa jacket which are on sale at present. Very impressed with it so far and very light weight pack down to tiny.

Yep, out walking dog in wind yesterday avo & warm as. Got a wee rain shower too, water just beads & runs off.
