Lowa Tibets - what leather conditioner??

I bought a pair of lowa tibets about 6 mths ago. Good boot, and I'm happy with so far, a little bit of rand starting to come unglued in one spotf spots is the only complaint so far .

I noted in the instructions that they were very specific in regards to leather treatment, going so far as to claim warranty would not be honored if certain products were used, so I stuck to the lowa active creme that came with them but I'm not really happy with it - the leather's drier than I'd like. Now that I've finished the tube that came with boots, I'm looking for something else.

With all previous boots (scarpas and asolo's), I've just used sno-sneal with good results . What are other's using on their tibets??

I’ve stuck with the Lowa products - water stop in combination with the cream as recommended and the boots are great after a couple of years. I use the product every time I go out. They do look sort of dry but they’re supple and waterproof so I figure it’s just appearance. If I were you I’d stick with their stuff. They advise against grease based stuff like dubbin etc.

The instructions say apply the waterproofing then the creme. The guy where i bought my renegades said he does creme first, otherwise the waterproofing stops the creme penetrating. Made sense to me!

Not sure if its the right thing to do - but I do know manufactures will try as hard as they can to swing you into their own products
Dubbin from Supermarket is cheap and a tin lasts for ages

Snowseal on a pair of gronell mountain boots and the leather cracked after only 6 and a half years of almost continous daily use. The stuffs Bloody rubbish!. My lowa rangers get the same treatment hope they last as long

I was advised never to use that stuff by a cobbler. Destroys the adhesives used to make the boot apparently.

I tried that Lowa stuff but gave up as it did SFA.
I use Gregor Chemie leather care now and have done for ages. Best stuff I found to keep the leather waterproof and fed.

I also heard it rotted stitching - but to be honest - and I use my boots (vary between 3 boots depending on if I climbing trees or Quading or just hauling arse) 3-5 days per week and had not problems
Soles wear out/off before any of that shows

Bloody hell - 6 tubes will get you another pair of boots (if you like me a n Scottish & buy 2nd hand - but near new)

I last got 1 for free when I bought 1. Still haven't used the first tube up. It lasts for ages!

The lowa cream is piss weak shite, Elephant wax is a great product for leather

Works a treat never had wet feet or issues with boots from its use.

I also have Lowa Tibets, reasonably new. I pout the SnoSeal on them, has made them very dry... From the responses on this thread I still haven't got a clue what to use!!

I have used the Lowa creme and waterproofer. Seems to have worked OK so far. I have put some avocado oil on the flex areas to prevent cracking. Just about out of Lowa creme so have to decide what to use next.

Looks like T7 has Nikwax for a reasonable price.

Ive just looked at all the options mentioned here.

The Gregor cream looks to be the go:



Lowa cream retails at $19.95 for 75mls = 26.6 cents per ml

Meindl wax retails at $19.95 for 80gms = 24.9 cents per gram

Gregor Chemie at EZDIRECT is $25.00 for 250mls = 10 cents per ml

Just use the Lowa products according to their instructions. I swear it works! My boots are in great shape! I have had no issues. And yes I put the cream on after. It seems strange to me too but it works. Just be religious about using it. Well that’s what I recommend anyway. Good luck 😉

Used lowa products on my last set of rangers was useless.

I use a beeswax type abd found it works great. No crackibg and great waterproofness

Where the best place to get the full lowa cleaning kit?

I've had Lowa Tibets for about three years. I give them a good clean with warn water and a stiff brush whenever they have been dirty or very wet (which is often). I then treat them with the Lowa products. They have stayed in reasonable nick but maybe a little on the dry side. One of the boats does give a little squeaking noise at times which really annoys me. The other annoying thing is the inner sole seams to slide towards the front of the boat.

In general I'm not unhappy with the tibets but I think I'll try something else when I finally wear these boats out.

What size did you get if you are using them as a boat?

I've ordered the Gregor stuff, gonna give that a crack. See how it goes

Hubbard's shoe grease is bloody good stuff. It is the preferred product for Andrews Boots (similar to Lowa). Good waterproofing and keeps leather from drying out. If I am heading off on a long trip I will also put a coating or snoseal over top. Most hunting stores should have the stuff too.
