    macpac alpine cocoon biv

got my hands on one of these , took it for a spin saturday night while camping with the family . not too bad a little coffin like with the hood zipped up but woke dry and fairly warm, used a older thermarest pad as i think you would struggle to fit a thick inflatable pad and still be able to move round, ended up tying the hood off to a matagouri mint view of the stars and sunrise . [ATTACH]286487[/ATTACH the girls were in a nature hike cloud up btw. Name: download (15).jpg

We use a bungy instead of string to hold our bivvy bags off our faces. The stretchiness permits you to move about a fair bit and still have the bivvy pulled off your face.

These are iconic. People gave blood for them when the lightweight thing first started.

Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

Do you tie the bungy to something above you like is shown in the pics for this to work?

There were a few on the yellow site recently if anyone was interested. Got one 25+ years ago and still use it occasionally though tents have got much lighter and I like the extra head room!

Yup. But sometimes it can limit the places that the bungy will work well from. Scrub and manuka offer better branches at height to get them to work well. Our bivvy bags have a large mossie net included in the zipper area, so with a bungy pulling it open you can keep a decent flow of air over your face without inviting all the sandflys and mossies in for the night.
