I've got a bunch of Fenix torches probably no better or worse than all the other Chinese made torches out there. They only have about 50 different models so plenty of time to find just the right one.
Get a good old fashioned bobbys torch (but LED), they are durable enough when you crack the crim over the skull with it (accidentally of course).

Have you checked out the cop shop - not the "cop shop" as such, but the shop where the cops buy their gear from. Might be worth a browse.

Finding things in the dark, especially at a distance then I must say my maxtochs have been wonderful. Have not use Olights to compare, but I am very happy with the maxtoch...
I have a maxtoch sniper and a mate has the 2x, both de-domed.
There is not a massive amount of difference between them and i reckon if you get either of those you won't need to look for another torch.....so my vote goes to the maxtoch mate !!!

For a belt torch, check out Nitecore MH27 or the UV model if you need that function - theres a nice corrugated bezel that fits them too.
If you want a bean cracker then get the Nitecore MH40GTR
Maxtoch better than Olight equivalent but only 1 year warranty vs 5 years for the Olight.
If you have lots of dollars to drop, have a look at the Surefire Dominator but I would imagine its a special order.
IMO there are only 5 brands to choose from in your profession:
Nitecore
Maxtoch
Surefire
Fenix
Olight
Currently run an Olight javelot, brilliant for spot lighting. Have shot deer at 300m with ease.
My current flashlight would suit you well.

I buy a new torch pretty regularly after starting with DEFT-X and DEFT EDCs (class of their own throwers).
Loving the Nextool. Great features.
+1 for Olight too.
Maxtoch Dedomed 2X is all you will need. You can get a neoprene belt holster thing for them too I think. Nothing will hide from that amount of light.
Torches have come a long way since the old 3D cell maglites. Just no comparison even with a led in the old bodies they don't have anywhere near the output of the led chips they use in the high end Maxtochs.
Got a few Maxtoches and like them all. The big 2x seems to win all the pissing wars with your mates. The m1 archer is my go to at the moment, shines a lot further than I can shoot and small and light only running on one single 18650.
Run a small Olight, brilliant wee torch for its size.
Time for a plug for something than all the "other" brands - my big torch is an older Thrunite Catapult. It's a bit like the old Maglites in heft, ie solid as, could be used as a club, and you could shave on the bezel. Sits on my bedside cabinet....
Older LED technology which won't match the lumens of the latest torches but still excellent throw. On our small famlet I can easily check all my animals last thing at night from upstairs.
Normally runs on 2 18560s but can be shortened up by removing a centre section and running on 1 18650. Output stays the same.
No but it is good balance between thrower and flood. Here is my wee Deft EDC om 1x18650.

I bought a Maxtoch 2x Shooter after finding the “All Things Maxtoch” thread on this forum. It’s bloody awesome. Next purchase will be the Maxtoch M1 Archer.
I've got an M1 Archer too ( only 1 of many Maxtochs) and it is very grunty. Being a single cell 18650 it doesn't have the runtime of the 2 cell torches at full noise, but you can run it on a low setting for general walking, then up it to big time for the shooting. Actually I'm not sure they still sell them Stagstalker. I think the M2 with the side switch instead of the tail switch on the m1 is the only Archer you can get now ?
I usually grab my big torch, but apart from being lighter, single cell torches have the added benefit that if you can find a stuffed laptop battery and pull it apart, you will have 5 or 6 usable 18650 batteries, since it it usually only 1 battery that is stuffed. Just watch them while charging and only use them in single cell torches since they wont have overload protection.
Be very careful doing this as laptop cells usually have a low current rating, using them in a torch that requires more current can be dangerous. Just remember, the cell is in a sealed metal cylinder and can explode if things go south. I've seen the aftermath of an explosion that blew a guys apartment window out.
I used to do this a couple years back but no longer take the risk.
never piss around with lithium batteries not made for the job, and never charge them with the wrong charger !!
i have an 0light javelot and its outstanding
Armytek predator - tough as hell which is what you want
10 year warranty
Used to dive with one as well
Several of your colleagues use them
I have a Surefire which has been reliable for about five years now. I think it's the 6px model, not sure. The current model I think is the G2X or something. Thing I like with the Surefire is the beam seems a bit more concentrated and focused.
I have a bunch of Olights. No complaints, no issues. I have the Seeker 2, two gun lights for pistols or rifle, a penlight and a keychain light. Used to have one of their standard models but that got lost somewhere. The Seeker 2 and one of the gun lights have the magnetic charging cap which seems to work good. The Seeker 2 is about 3500 Lumens and for the size is pretty potent puts out a lot of light to cover a wide area. It easily fits in your hand, fits on a belt with it's holster and for size/weight versus power, I think it's a pretty good light for outdoor work.
I was also going to add I have one of those old heavy as a club 4 D cell cop style Maglites and there are LED upgrade kits for those.
I remember when I bought that light back in 2004 and thought I had hit the big time, I finally had a flashlight with a beam you could focus that put out good light. By todays standards, the modern LED lights blow it away and make it look like a joke.
At some point when I have the extra money I am going to upgrade it and keep it around for situations where I don't have to carry it around, such as for the vehicles or in the barn.
