Meat bags for load shelf packs

Gday have a kuiu set up what's the thoughts on the meat bars and can u just use a good size dry bag? Freight kills it buying a kuiu meat bag. Any other options to consider?

Game Gear bags are good value. Sometimes you have to get the sewing kit out to tidy the tie offs up a bit. They wash well and are a decent size. They are also cotton or such like and not so slippery as the flash ones are under the load shelf pannier.

Are they similar to the hunters element ones? Are they ok to just use in the meat shelf? Don't just spew out the sides when loaded up? Cheers tahr

This is what I use. I carry a small amount of plastic sheet to put between the meat bags and the pack surface if things are a bit bloody and I want to keep the pack clean, but the sides and top are still breathable. They clean up good with a soak in bleach, or if your lazy just toss them and buy more. $4.50ea is hard to beat.

My understanding is you don't want your meat in a sealed bag/container. Especially when it's still warm.

Meat bags for load shelf packs

I put my meat into pillowcases or muslin bags first, then use a 25 kg woven poly stock feed bag. The poly bag is about the right size and being stiffer than plastic holds the load together well on the shelf.
Cheap and also easy to wash a bit of blood out of it.

I leave the top open to let any heat out.

I use the Stone Glacier meat bag which is a big dry bag it works well.
The problem I found with the kuiu load shelf is soft meat sneaks out as there is no actual shelf for it to sit on.

I use the Mystery Ranch meat bags, they hook over the Guidelight MT frame and can't move / slip anywhere.

    Is that pack the Metcalf?

Just don't use too much bleach when soaking them. I had one fall to bits after washing it. Like tissue paper.

It's a bloody pain when boned out meat spews out the side of the kuiu.
That's one of the reasons I changed to a SG and with their meat bag it works great I also remove the pack bag and just use the meat bag as a day pack with another dry bag inside.
Then load the meat in the big bag and other dry bag of gear on top, it sits nice in the load shelf pocket.

    Parky,
If you’re meat is real bloody the woven bags can leak a little. A plastic bin liner bags keeps everything clean. It doesn’t have to be heavy though as the poly bag holds it all in shape.
