    MSR Windburner: how many brews?

Trying to be smart re weight.

How many boil-ups should I safely expect from a 100gm canister of MSR gas?

    Thanks

You should boil 2L of water per ounce of fuel (in good conditions, wind under 15kph and air temp above 6c) I'd expect 6-7L boiled per small 4oz 100gram cannister.

    Cheers

Im not sure they are the lightest bits of kit when it comes to cooking.. they are fast and don't use a huge amount of gas but you can get a lighter system for cheaper if your not interested in speed..

I recently did a 8 day trip with a mate and we used 3 little cans of gas for 5 boils a day, most boils were between 400-600 mils of water. They can really suck the gas first thing in the morning when its cold...

I’m mostly solo hunting five day trips and take 2 of the small gas cans, will only boil what is needed, so 450ml cup with 8 to 14 brews out of the small gas can. Boil 800ml for a meal and a coffee. No point wasting gas and boiling unnecessary. They are nice burners to use in any type of breeze and the fry pan for them work well but uses a lot of gas.

I’ve got mine purely for the hot brew and hot water for my bag of DeHi dinner when more than a day trip.

I used to use a small kovea stove and pit and had a horror time one trip trying to boil a pot of water

I've been thinking I'd like one of these...not sure the weight/less gas cost/benefit ratio compared to a Pocket Rocket or Soto that weigh a lot less with titanium pot.

They are super expensive for convenience in my book, i did some quick sums of gear weight for my trips and had to go on a 8 day trip eating dehy's for it to make any sense weight wise. A titanium cup and kovea cooker will do the same job for half the price in twice the time..

That being said if you dont mind a bit of extra weight they are a nice bit of kit ive had my wind burner for 12 months now and put 20 cans through it with no issues..
