Neoprene Gaiters

I have a pair of Hunters Element Neoprene Gaiters ( the zip up model ) .
I have worn them over the holiday period and they are starting to tear/rip along the stiching by the zip .
Hunters Element make a model without the zip that I might try because the tension of stretching the bottom of the Gaiter over your boot top is what has caused the weakened stiched area to seperate .
I was wondering what other brands of Neoprene Gaiters are out there and what you guys might recommend.

I personally wouldn't go near neoprene gaiters unless you are spending a lot of time in the river: they are bloody hot on the feet when climbing or on the tops...

It’s hunters element..crap mostly.

I'm very happy with Neoprene , just trying to find some that dont tear along the stitching .

Its funny because I have read this many times here .
I have a Hunters Element Jacket which I really love and its very well made and thought the bad reviews were just bad feeling or brand loyalty but these Gaiters are not up to standard and I now understand some of the lack of love for Hunters Element .
I didn't start this to be a negative thread , I'm just chasing advice on an alternative brand or model .

I have a pair of Ridgeline neoprene gaiters that I've been using for the last 7 or 8 years and to date they've given me excellent service. They're getting towards the end of their life now but the stiching certainly hasn't let go. They haven't lost any of their stretch either. For an inexpensive option I can see me buying another pair.

Ken iwas just thinking -are there any recycling centres close to you .if so stroll on in see if theres any old wetsuits on the shelves.
if so and theyre obviously mens size -get one and cut the legs off like a gigantic rubber band -bingo an set of DIY gators which can handle the shite and cost bugger all.
If youre really canny you may be asble to make two pair. that neoprene also makes great scope covers.
ive got a set on them but i found it was too much shasgging about trying to put em on.Ive gone to knee length military style.easier all round.

Ridgeline doesn't make the neoprene gaiters anymore, bloody hard to find any.

Everything Ridgeline with a zip that I've owned has failed.

I wouldn't go for neoprene gaiters either though, must be horribly hot and sweaty.

These gaiters have lasted well and the zips have been great. Maybe their quality went downhill. And according to diana2, I'm also now looking for a new set of gaiters NOT made by Ridgeline.

I looked into buying decent neoprene gaiters and couldn't find any.
In the end I cut out the zippers from my old Ridgeline ones, bought an old wetsuit from the op shop like kotuku mentioned and sewed it all together.
Made hook from fencing wire for holding the shoe laces and voila, they work well.
They look somehow industrial but should last a few years.

I have always bought neoprene gaiters from 'The complete Angler' in ChCh for fishing. Ask Malc which ones he uses himself and you wont go wrong. He recommends the non zip jobs.
If you are want them for hunting, I find 'Horse bandages' are vastly superior.

Yes that is the correct technique !!

Have used magnum zip-less gaiters for years and would recommend them. Cheap and durable.

Haven't read the whole thread but i have a pair here that i don't use. The look well made but I'm not sure of the brand.

There yours if you want them.

I've had a pair of zip-less Wetlander neoprene gaiters for about 4 years and they are just starting to show signs of fucking out. The lace catch is going to tear off soon. This pulls of the neoprene over time if ouot try and hook it to low (like I do).

I would buy another pair. They are cheap, something like $30. Great for keeping snow, water, stones and other shit out of boots.

I have a pair of Swazi 'Hush putties' and don't recommend them. They are sweaty - worse than neoprene, nothing is as good for hunting as Horse Bandages IMO

Thousands of horses cant be wrong - and you won't hear me sneaking up behind you in the bush….

have a pair of neoprenes (never use)and two pair( one ex brit army) of knee high gaiters others civvie ones.find knee high version easier.

Anything without a zip usually lasts longer,the clips for the laces tear out pretty easily tho.
