Thread: New gps

Have a rino 650 which has been very good but had a rough life and is starting to have a glitch with the radio feature

Rino 700 looks crap

Rino 750 looks good but doesn't really offer much over the 650

Garmin Inreach explorer looks good but very expensive monthly plans

Can I use the Garmin explorer as a GPS/radio without the monthly account? It's a bit lighter than the rino

Any hands on experience with the 750?
Any other options?

I have a 750 and a 650, the 750 is better due to its larger screen apart from that no difference for what I use it for, as for the 700 why would you even bother a etrex 10 with a radio ? No update for maps, you can only assume they had a lot of 650 cases left over.

I believe Garmin NZ offer refurbished units for sale relatively cheap in exchange for damaged/faulty units of the same type. (can't just buy them, have to have one to trade-in)

From memory, it was under $200 for a replacement 650.

Could be worth a try, if you still like the 650 and don't need the upgrade?

Certainly the way I'm leaning. Surprised the technology hasn't improved further to be honest

I think mine cost me $300 to replace when i had a broken screen a few years ago and i got to keep the battery so now have a spare. Tony from KiwiGPS is the man to contact.

Inreach explorer + can take all the usual maps from what I've read

I would check on that, the Garmin Inreach (There is Garmin and delorme Inreach units) looks like a normal Garmin unit and they both take an sd card but the software untill now can't run the normal maps. My dad was just given a Garmin unit to try by SPOT NZ and they told him at the time don't expect much from the maps but they are in the process of developing better maps that they will run

So glad my kids are past Dora.

My mrs cut her fringe straight across at one stage now we have a mate that calls her Dora the Explorer haha

or the garmin fenix 5x maybe??

Great weight saving cmpared to dedicated GPS, obviously no radio

Bro take one for the team and trial one of these.
Just run orux maps app and whatever map set you want.
