    New Watch suggestions

So...my beloved and trusty Fenix 5x has died
    I need a replacement

I use this every day for all the usual smartwatch features and sometimes for telling the time.
Plus way point projection, tracking and navigation and exercise monitoring.

I would consider adding functions if I used them-ballistics connectivity etc and I'm not a brand snob.

Im as tech savvy as all the other frontrow forwards

So in words of 1 syllable or less what are your recommendations and why?

Garmin, if you liked the one you had why not get latest model.

    Get another Garmin!!

I have the Forerunner (because it's cheaper), but it packs all the same functionality.
I like that the battery will last a week between recharging (using the GPS for 4 hours during the week).

I have the original Instinct. It sort of does GPS, but doesn't do mapping which isn't very helpful. I mainly use it as an expensive wrist-mounted compass. The new models don't look any better in this respect.

I had a Fenix 5s, when it died I decided to go a little simpler and got an Instinct 2 Solar.
Think G-Shock with more functionality if wanted.

Battery life is awesome, I find the Trackback easy enough to use, all the usual activity tracking and metrics.
If/when it dies I'll be inclined to look at the latest Instincts rather than the Fenix's

Same. 60 days battery life in power save mode is awesome

The new gesture feature on the latest Garmins adds heaps to battery endurance without having to put up with the power saver mode function limitations.

    I had a 5 which got replaced under warrentee with a 6X.
I 've had this for ages and still really like it. Has my boating, shooting and general fitness covered.

Personally I would love an 8 but struggle to justify the price. My 6 does everything I need 13 days with bluetooth on.
Have a look around and see if you can find a Fenix 6 or 7 at a good price

Had a Fenix 5, now have a 7 sapphire solar. Definitely upgrade to the next highest Fenix you can afford. Deals are around on 7's now the 8 has been out a while.
Getting older is compulsory, growing up is entirely optional.

Just bought the Fenix 8 AMOLED. Moved from a 6X. JB HiFi duty free was $1850.
Massive improvements. AMOLED touch screen is far brighter and better detailed.
Speaker and microphone now so competing with the Apple Ultra 3 but with a better battery.
Still early days but I think I've been wearing a Fenix for maybe 10 years now after switching from Suunto and not regretting it.
199p, BRADS and ZQLewis like this.

Have the first instinct, but altitude and barometer stopped working right after warranty period ended. Still use it but fucks me off because I used altimeter pretty regularly. Would like the new fenix but I want to re barrel a rifle first

I never found the altimeter to particularly accurate to the point that I have it switched off. Shame because it would be quite useful. I'm pretty unimpressed by the watch to be honest. As I said in an earlier post, just use it as a compass. The sunrise/sunset page is nice to have, but hardly essential.

If I'm correct the altimeter function is really only a function of the barometer, so without the barometer both are non functional. I understand you need to get sea level pressure correct through regular calibration of your device as this will at the zero reference for altitude.
