    Osprey packs

Plenty of time to kill so looking into backpacks. Tatonka seem to be the most popular at the moment, but does anyone have any feedback on Osprey packs, they seem to have a top name in the hiking world. Considering one of these, like the idea of the top coming off and turns into a daypack. cheers

They are awesome. The most comfortable pack I have ever used and it is near 1kg lighter then a Tatonka. Full lifetime warranty you can’t go wrong. Had heavy loads in mine since doing this review and it was good as gold.

Cheers mate, good review. Just going through my gear and looking where I can cut weight so it doesn't make sense to get a pack 1kg heavier provided it can still handle the weight. In regards to size still tossing up between the 70 & 85, how do you like the 85, would you find the 70 a bit small?

@Hunterdave I am happy with the 85l. Personally I like having more space, not so I can carry more crap as I try to hunt light, but so I have plenty of room for meat and extra gear of a mates of need be. Overall the size difference between the two is minimal so I definitely prefer the extra volume.

I just ordered the aether 70 pro, at 1.8kg its a very good lighter pack with a frame that can also carry a good amount of weight
I emailed them as they had them on special for $399 just before the lockdown so im sure if you email them they will do for that price once we are out of lockdown

I bought a 70L Aether AG and it wasn't big enough for me. Rapidly changed to the 85 AG and its much better in capacity.
The detachable top which converts to a day pack is excellent. Big enough to hold waterbottle, firstaid pack, down jacket and meat bags.

I haven't totally gotten it to fit me after 2 trips, the bottom of the waste belt rubs on my hips but I'm sure its just a matter of breaking it in.

Ive got the Aether 70 and also had the issue of the hip belt rubbing my hips raw, Had plenty of trips thinking it would come right, tried a few adjustments and nothing fixed it. Theres plastic inserts in the hip belts that can be removed, I cut an arch out of them where my hip bones were. Good as now.

Really good packs, although I found the day pack system junk for my use so cut it out for more room and slight weight reduction I guess... For me it's a lot nicer to use the main pack with the top bit removed if wanting it smaller for a day pack..

Bought an Aether 85 AG recently.

It has only been on 1 trip before lockdown, but I can tell you right now it is the most comfortable pack I have ever carried.

Chose the Aether 85 for 3 primary reasons - light weight, extra room for carrying out meat, detachable brain to use as a daypack while hunting

Breathing life into thread- how does it compare now @ebf? Happy?
I’m looking at Totonka or your one above? The idea of breaking it down to do a day hunt appeals.

I'm still super happy with it @Danny

If I had to buy again today will be the same model.

The Osprey packs also have an absolute killer lifetime guarantee - break it for ANY reason, and they will fix or replace it.

If you want to keep the weight down and have a super comfortable pack, take a look at Aarn Packs. Further faster lighter is the Web site I think. I rate mine with the front packs.

I just bought the Osprey Aether 70 AG to replace my Tatonka Bison.
The Bison just didn't work for me. Love how the lid comes off and acts as a day pack. Nice and comfortable on the short walk I took it on so far.

Gave me quite a sore back for some reason. So much so that I hated using it and avoided trips because of it. They are bloody heavy too to be honest, but that's because they are well made I believe.
Much prefer the Osprey so far.
