    Pants - after opinions

Is (or has) anyone used the Earth Sea Sky [ESS] line of pants, either the "Taslan longs" or "Fast track longs"? Can't find too much about them online, one review from a kiwi guy on them and he rated them pretty highly. ESS seem a nice brand, and nice to have NZ made and support local. Be interested in hearing opinions and reviews on them.
This is the link to the two pants from ESS:

    Fastrack:

Another pair of pants I'm considering is the Swazi Ipotane hunting pants. Quite pricey (circa $350) and not sure how versatile they'd be for the north island (I.e. not the cold of the south island etc). Anyone running a pair of them, and any feedback on them yet? This is the link to the swazi site if anyone unsure of which ones they are:

Keen to raid the collective gear knowledge bank and experience before shelling out the dollars.

And I am back, https://cactusoutdoor.co.nz/collecti...rtrousers-mens forever and wear a merino legging on the inside over winter.

    Can't beat em.

I have a pair of the ESS flash pants I think they are. It’s a really good material for outdoor use. Light and quick-drying, but plenty tough enough still. Probably more of a summer than a winter pant.

If you are after general use pants, i.e. not wet weather pants, I use Ripstock Hard Yakka pants.

I thrash them and they stand up well, have plenty of size options, easily available to try on and buy, and can be worn non-hunting.

I've just ordered my second pair of Swazi 4x4 fleece pants. The first pair are still going, I have struggled to wear them out and now being used for work. I find them a bit warm to walk in but easy to throw over top when glassing or at camp. Great fabric.

I can recommend Ground Effect Daddy Long Legs leggings. I'm on my second pair and highly rate them for winter use. Coming down through alpine scrub yesterday reminded me how tough they are. Saved the legs from a thrashing

Add Hunters Element Spur trousers to your list.

The stitching in my first pair gave way in the crotch after less than a year, but I suspect this was due to poor QA and/or design. The good people at HE replaced them and the newer ones don't have such a low crotch, meaning they don't have to stretch as much when extending. They still come up quite high in the waist which is my only criticism, although it does mean they keep covering your butt when you're bending over or sitting down.

Fabric is light, stretchy & breathable with higher wear panels where required. Good big zips at ankles so you can put them on over boots. Good pocket options, I tend to use the cargo pockets the most as the hip pockets are harder to access when wearing a pack.

You won't overheat in them in summer, and I run thermal compression leggings under them in winter.

I've garked them up quite a lot pushing through a lot of matagouri and gorse, and while there are a number of pulls in the fabric, they haven't torn yet.

Would buy again, although I doubt I will need to for a few years yet.

Tights, shorts n gaiters take a lot of beating.if going to be thrashing through matagouri n Spaniards you simply won't beat canvas chaps. Long pants get hot and don't allow you to dump heat unless removing them, and most hold back/ bind at the knee when walking up hill especially if wet. I miss the old nylon Adidas track pants from the 80s,they were good compromise.i will wear fleece pants, but it's got to be plurry cold and pretty much guarantee they will come off n go in pack before day is over.

I made a pair of leather shorts in 1970 when I was an apprentice at a saddlery and canvas place , still got them .
