The wife saw an advert for a PLB, and as she points out "I'm not 21 anymore", and she thinks one of these is a good idea, and I should buy one. I think that since she thinks it's a good idea, SHE should buy me one, and I should spend money on essentials, like gas to go hunting.
Anyway, has anyone got one of these PLB's? The one I saw was tiny, and about $599 new. Bet that price seems cheap if you are lying down a bank with bones sticking out. Any feedback?
Better to have it an not need it than the other way round.
I have the ACR model. Super small and lightweight. Built pretty tough too! It's on my belt 24/7 and dont even notice it's there!

They are cheap compared to what could happen (and mostly it doesn't)
Mines a floating model - so take it in the kayak with me too

That would be the Ocean Signal rescue me PLB1. I've got one and so far so good, it's tiny, is made in the UK and has a 7 year battery life (more actually, mine expires in nov 2020).

Any PLB is good and will do the job, I liked the Ocean Signal for the small size and weight and battery life.
Now that is a nice unit! Three more years to run on my GME :-(

does not matter if you are 16 or 86 the technology is out there now and it is user friendly. if you can afford one get one, great if you never get to use it, but if you do at least you have one.

We take ours when traveling thru the passes just incase we come across / involved in a accident. No running to find a phone / cell reception to call for help. Just whip it out an press the button.
Keep in mind that you can hire a plb for not much coin, if you are not in a position to buy one right now.
Local SAR group up here have bought a few for the purpose of, as it makes life easier for all concerned. The gps function takes all the guess work out to the point where you could say that it takes the "search " out of sar.
Would there be any interest if someone in the know (not bloody me:)) approached someone or some company about a bulk purchase for members?
May be a way for some of us that do not have one yet to get one at a cheaper rate?
Im just thinking as I always say "argh cost too much" when I really see the benifit of having one.
