The KTI units are hard to look past for the price.. $300ish with 10 year battery life.

The Kannad Safelink PLB's are pretty rugged, however a little bit more expensive that some of the other cheaper PLB's out there. Otherwise the InReach products are also pretty good and they allow you to txt, email and most importantly update facebook.

Kti units from cooee bay whos a forum member seem to be the best value for a straight plb i could find. Battery life is 10 years and can be replaced at around $50 i think.

They do the same job, comes down to personal preference I think, some are smaller, some have a better battery life, some are dearer.
You just need to find which suits your budget and likes best.
I got an ACR resQlink cheap of Trademe, It was an unwanted freebee a chap got when he bought a quad bike. Deals do come up.

Have ordered one from cooey bay.
Water resistant to 3m should see me right in bush I avoid getting feet wet.
Question how often can you/do you test without compromising battery life.

    Thanks @erniec

The battery has plenty of activation and test time during the 10 year life. The manual gives you all the details for conducting the two types of test.

    Hi Peter
    Got it yesterday.
Have got it pretty well sussed.
    Manual easy to follow.
Have to say it is not terribly expensive or big to not have one.
Registration no problem online other than remembering finding contact phone numbers.
    Cheers
