    Rain jackets

Looking for a new rain jacket, don't have $500+ to spend but not wanting army clothing either which rather limits my choices. I quite like the look of the Swazi rifleman jacket but maybe want something longer to keep shorts dry. Also want something fairly light.

What are the recommendations from the team?

I can get the pro deals pricing at Swazi which makes things more realistic, but with no stockists close I can go and physically handle any of their stuff.

I bought a Macpac Copland recently for $180 on clearance special, I see they are still on a good discount

I have one each of these and they're brilliant. I'm the same haven't got $500 to spend on a jacket. The desert cam jackets are new. Both are made of the military version of Goretex

Got a few of the same, been in absolute downpours and remain bone dry. Been my main commute and hunting jacket for a few years now with no issues at all.

I bought Copland jacket on recommendation from sons who have served. Originally I was looking at ex nzdf ‘milair’ jackets but was warned off them by the lads. Apparently the ex UK gortex stuff is far better kit than what kiwis had issued in this regard.

Yep. Have one of those to. Better than any hunting brand jacket for half the price.

You could get this https://swazi.co.nz/products/rawjv I got one later last year and the price is pretty good for the pro deals it's very lightweight and comes down to the bottom of your shorts I use mine for fencing and it's been great

I definitely would be another who fully endorses the Macpac Copeland as awesome bang for buck.

My first hunting jacket was an ex-nzdf job with the milair waterproofing. More like sorta-proofing.

Now run a macpac resolution (very similar cut to the copland) and have found it pretty stellar to date.

Based simply on price I might just have to bite the bullet and get a military one, money is very tight at the moment.

This is all I use now (HE Halo). Cheap, nice fit, good length, light, packs away well and waterproof. If it craps out (mine hasn’t yet) its cheap to replace unlike a tear in a flash $600 jacket.

+1 for the Resolution ( it is basically the earlier version of the Copland) and has not let me down over the last few years (including some nasty Fiordland weather)
