Sharpening CPM-S110V Steel
This is a follow up to my review of the Venev diamond stones:

and also as an add-on to @mikee ’s thread on sharpening his Benchmade in S30V:

The small Venev stones are just such damned good value at less than $25 per abrasive grade. I’ve thrown out the other sharpening tools I had here – they’re ineffectual in comparison and just not needed anymore.

The Native-5 in CPM-S110V arrived with 19° and 14° edge bevels. These were re-profiled to an even 15° per side. Just effortless. Describing the tactile feedback from the courser stones I would say - for want of a better term - that the blade felt crumbly. The smell was interesting too: like an angle grinder on A4 stainless.

For fun I moved through all six abrasive grades to get an edge finish more for looks really - and because it was just plain easy to apply with the stones using the homemade jig I’d knocked together the other day. For use though I’ll now go back and re-work the edge to a 600-grit finish leaving it more toothy.

The transition from the satin finished factory grind to the edge bevel is sharp, a by-product of using a jig, as I would have made a right mess of this by hand.

I can only assume that results would be similar for other blade steels that are often tagged as difficult to sharpen: Elmax, 20cv, ZDP, M4 and suchlike, including S30V.
