Sharpening a "Swiss Army Knife"

I have a Victorinox pocket knife here that I found in a riverbed a few years back, its a handy wee thing and the blades up untill recently have been scalpel-sharp, I always carry it as a backup whilst hunting. I have never had to sharpen it but last couple of days I have used it to cut a lot of rubber tubing etc in the dairy shed and its definitely taken the shine off both the big and small blades. What should I use to sharpen it? I have a Lansky kit and a Jewel stick that I use for my hunting knives and the kitchen knives etc, trouble is the blades are too small to fit in the Lansky Jig and still be able to stone them.Attachment 72118

Good question, I've a SAK that I've had since before I left South Africa. Only treatment it's ever received is oil - still cuts stuff but am sure it could do so more effectively.

Run the edge over the bottom of a plate or cup.

get a wet stone and learn to use one . . . its not that hard

the wee ceramic rods that sit in block of wood at correct angle work perfectly on those knives....as does an oilstone.

A fine stone is best imo but a trained hand on a diamond steel (effectively a stone as it removes steel) and a very light steel on a smooth hard steel/ceramic to finish she will be good to go again.

Ryan if you can't put a 20 degree angle on the little blade without the lanky bottoming out use a chalked file to lower the knuckle on the clamping jig. Alternatively check if anyone in your neck of the woods has an Edge Pro Apex. I do both blades of my SAK on mine.

I've used my lansky for my SAKs and then a leather strop

basic fine stone thingy does mine.

a good stone is great (wow i sound just like a greenie politician) but make sure you use a good honing oil. for a quick sharpen those ceramic pencils work well even on stainless.
but i have found on stainless that sharpening one edge then de-burring the other is the way to go

My SAK has both tweezers and toothpick at the same end :thumbsup:

Just chock the lanksy stone up in somthing and use it like a mini bench stone. Will work perfectly for that little blade
